Today is a good day! Big Grin

Can't believe we've managed to sign Reid. I'm off to the bookies to lump some cash on us going up e/w Wink

I mean no offence Money, but why is he moving down a league. Stevenage got in the play offs last season and could be in and around there again to get promotion to the championship.

Also Gary Megson for the Crawley Town manager

None taken mate. I think basically he picked up an injury last season and consequently fell out of favour with the new gaffer due to losing a bit of form.
Craig Reid played under Dean Holdsworth at Newport County and became a very prolific striker there. When Holdsworth first joined Aldershot, Reid was one of the players he wanted to bring with him, however he was massivley out of our price range.
With a bit of success last season and a shuffle of the pack it seems we found the cash to stump up to get our man.

I just hope he can recreate the form shown at Newport that had West Ham and Brighton so interested in him.

As for the Crawley manager, I still think it'll be Southgate.

Yeah I just read that. Very unfortunate. Hopefully there won't be any further complications and Best comes back as fit as ever.

Portsmouth are inching towards being saved after getting so many players off the wage bill. We now only have 3 senior players left though so I'm not sure what team we can put out other than the youth team.

Fantastic support yesterday from Pompy. Couldn't quite believe the noise being made and the numbers they brought to a pre season friendly.
I think Appleton will be a brilliant manager as well. He has knocked up a team in only a few weeks of trialists, youth and the remaining contracted players and they are playing quick, slick football.

I stayed behind after the final whistle for 10 minutes and applauded the away support, which still remained strong when I left. God knows how long they stayed there for.

I've just seen that Pompey have finally managed to get shot of Tal "36K a week" Ben Haim. That should be a big step in their battle to survive, though it really shouldn't have taken him that long to realise he was killing the club by staying on so long.

His position was difficult because no other club showed any interest in him, but at least he's agreed a deal now, unlike Kanu who's still claiming £3m from the club. Anyway only 1 player left at Portsmouth now (Liam Lawrence) and there's a chance that he'll be gone too by the end of today. That will leave us with just our youth team players and about 15 trialists, although if we survive some of those trialists will be taken on and given a contract (but none of them will earn more than £5k a week under the wage ceiling in our survival plan).

LATEST: Liam Lawrence will leave Portsmouth today, leaving us with no professional players on our books and thereby saving us from liquidation. We can now look forward to starting our League 1 campaign with a local derby against Bournemouth a week tomorrow. We have enough trialists training with the club to get a team together.
