Alright lads?? It's been a while.......
Just reading back through the previous posts. Bit of a conflict in opinions there!!! Now to add my tuppence worth....
I agree with parts of BOTH sides of the debate.
groundnpound, i always admire how you get excited and see the positive side in everything about the club. Admirable quality. And i agree with you about Rodgers. I was a bit sceptical about him at first when KK was binned but i've been won over by him. His passion for football, the way he speaks about the football club, his philosophy on the game, his honesty and his respect for Liverpool Football Club is refreshing. I agree with you i think he's got something special about him and given the time AND BACKING he will be a success. You're right about the midfield players also. We have a special group of lads in there and Joe Allen looks like he was born in the centre circle in Anfield!!!
And now for
mitchell.... You are 100% correct with your assessment of the forward line. We are woefully short up there. We lack the goals to compete for a top 4 place. Suarez is a world class player but he wont get enough goals to fire us into the top 4. He isnt an out and out striker and should be used wider in the front 3. At the moment we will struggle to make top 4 in my opinon. City, United, Chelsea, Arsenal are miles ahead of us. Spurs, Everton & Newcastle look stronger aswell as hard as that is for me to admit. It's all well and good having these class midfielders but it counts for shit if we dont have a player to finish the moves off. We finished 20 points of 4th place last season. There isnt a bloody hope of us making up that difference this season.
Looking back on the closing day of the transfer window, i have to say it was a complete and utter cock-up by the football club. It was embarassing. To let our only out and out senior striker leave the club without a replacement lined up is one of the worst decisions in the history of our transfer dealings. Its even worse than paying 35 million pounds for him in the first place!!!
People can argue that Andy wouldnt fit in to the system but that shit doesnt wash with me. Having Andy at the club is better than they way we are now - NO STRIKERS!!!! We can look to the transfer window in January to get a new striker in to score us goals but by then i think we will be too far back. The ship will have long since sailed.
To sum up.....I think we will play lots of pretty football, dominate possession but we will ultimately be left frustrated quite a bit this season.
