The regular refereeing teams are in dispute over:
Pay increase rates.
The league's desire to replace the pension benefit with a defined contribution/401(k) plan.
Disagreement over the total number of officials and the evaluation process

And there were lots of cock ups in week 1

Considering their division 2 refs, I thought they did okay. There were a few mistakes (namely the one with the Seahawks - not their fault, blame the NFL advisor), but I thought they generally did a good job!

First drive had me reliving memories of last year when the team seemed incapable of defending against the Pass, but after that it wasn't too bad. CJ2K aka Chris Johnson - Tennessee's Running Back - ran for only 4 yards on 11 carries. Tennessee ran for only a total of 20 yards, teams that like to run the ball are going to have a very hard time doing so against the Pats.

I wouldn't be getting too excited yet about the New England rush defense, The Titans ranked 31st last season rushing and other than bringing in Hutchinson the O/L is still the same crap, CJ2K had done nothing since getting his $53 million contract, New England did look good stopping the run but so did everyone else last year, Couple of bad refereeing decisions didn't help, One was clear pass interference in the end zone and the other one that was ruled a catch then fumble/turnover which resulted in Jake Locker chasing the interceptor and getting injured and having to leave the game, especially annoying when replay showed it should have been a incompletion.

5 years ago a play like that by McCourty would have been called good defending, open up the passing game yes but don't do it such that the D can't do anything to stop a team passing the ball.

If a teams QB decides to get in on the tackle no matter what the outcome of the play should have been then that is his choice, at the time he thought that the play may go for TD and did something to stop it, as a result he injured himself, not that he was doing very well in the first place.

RE: NFL 2012/2013
the bbc are using the whole feed from espn. when the ads are on they cut to player profiles, this weeks results, tables etc, vid clips.

i was impressed by how good flacco was for the ravens against the bengals. if flacco stays fit i can see the ravens doing well this season.

read an article on bbc that the colts signed one of the promsing qbs for 30yrs in andrew luck http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/american-football/17779646 if luck can step up and reproduce his college form then the colts could have a good season but realisicaly next season will see the colts back on top.

also the nfl are looking at a 2nd nfl regular season game overseas probably in ireland http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-18522442

bbcs predictions http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/american-football/19420919

RE: NFL 2012/2013
week 2 starts in the early hours of tomorrow morning with the oldest rivalry in the nfl as the green bay packers take on the chicago bears in green bay. even though chicago is better than it was last season, still think green bay are too good for us especially at green bay so think we'll lose

a very good week 1, hope wk2 is just as good

First off the Bengals aren't known for being a powerhouse in the league and at one point were so poor they were nicknamed the Bungles. Flacco is a good QB but the Ravens are a team that is still too reliant on the Defensive side of the ball, and they have a Defense stacked with talent but said talent is old. They'll get to the playoffs but they aren't going deep.

As for Luck and the Colts returning to the top in Luck's second season, that's pure fantasy, the team has more holes than swiss cheese and it's going to be a couple of years before the team will start contending again. Don't get me wrong, I think that Luck has huge potential but it's going to take a good few years experience before Luck is getting close to his potential.

The BBC's predictions as to who will win the Super Bowl are decent but I just don't think that the 49ers are capable of going to the big game and winning it. Alex Smith (the 49ers QB) has had 1 good season and he is perhaps the weakest part of that team, they'll progress to the NFC Championship Game but will lose there to the Packers.

Kevin Cadle - I don't know what he has been smoking but if he thinks that the Eagles are capable of winning the SB he is sorely wrong, he talks about keeping Vick upright, that's not going to happen as he's going to take hits and get injured, they barely beat the Cleveland Browns on Sunday and the Browns are pretty damn poor.

Super Bowl will be between the Packers and the Patriots, and it will be a high scoring affair with two of the best players in the league Rodgers and Brady for the Packers and Patriots, respectively. If that does come to pass I'm going for a Patriots win, Brady wants a 4th Superbowl ring and he wants it badly and this time he will not be denied.

I think the Falcons can get over that playoff hump this year. New offensive and defensive co-ordinators, Matt Ryan is improving all the time and Julio Jones with Roddy White is probably the best wideout combo in the league. Plus Tony Gonzalez. They completely destroyed the Chiefs. They started wasting the clock for the whole fourth quarter but still scored 40.

Defense seems to have improved and the addition of a playmaker in Samuel will help.

I take it this Samuel is Asante Samuel? I remember when he played for the Pats, more of a ball hawk than anything else, he was well known in New England for blowing many a coverage by trying to go for the ball instead of covering his man.

To be fair to the Falcons though, the Chiefs are hardly a fantastic team - and I reckon they'll be the whipping boys of the AFC West this year and could possibly be picking early in the first round next year - they face a much sterner test this week when they play Manning's Broncos on Monday night football.

Although it's not until about week 4 or 5 of the season before you start to get a true measure of how a team will perform over the season. I think the Falcons will win the NFC South and be ranked 3rd in the NFC forcing them to play wild card weekend, where I expect they will win before being dumped by the #1 seed in the Divisional round.
