I have just heard that sony are planning on locking their games to individual consoles, so they cannot be sold on (bit like windows). So it will kill the pre owned market.

Its old news about the consoles being locked as posted a couple months ago about Sony taking out a patent on this very idea and the rumour is that Microsoft are doing something similar to there next gen system too. Nintendo hand helds used to be region free till they made the 3DS and locked out the games depending on there region.
As for the next gen games i don't think it will be the third party games that will the system i think it will be down to first party games as games like call of duty, fifa, etc etc will appear on both consoles it will down there own games like Uncharted, infamous, sly and cooper, god of war, killzone and the next Xbox gears of war, fable, forza, halo and terms of graphics yeah they'll be more realistic i just wanna see them add something new to the experience of there games rather then just making them look better with the extra power they will have i hope we see this.

And to make things more exciting there's a strong chance its not gonna play PS3 games either.

I'm thinking they would prefer games to be downloaded or streamed in preference to optical media. The worlds piss poor broadband speeds means that wont be possible on the upcoming next generation. Maybe 10 years after we'll see a disc free console.

I also predict that the PS3 will run alongside the PS4 for a good few years to come. The PS2 has only recently been put to bed after all.

That is EXACTLY the problem this person who told me about it would happen. They say that sony will be commiting comertial scuicide by doing this. They said that people who buy games now new, do so because they can resell them at a good price, take this away and all they will do is wait till they come down in price, thus screwing their share of the market up.

But if microsoft are doing it as well, I assume it's something that has been agreed to so people buy from them and not second hand.

Still playing mine, mopping all the cheap ps2 and ps1 games up.

I couldn't believe they were still producing the consoles until the end of last year. Mine fucked up a few years ago and I was gutted that my old games wouldn't work on my PS3.
