World Cup 2014 Brasil

The 2014 world cup will be great. It will be a carnival we are already world famous for Smile. It will be a fantastic world cup to go to and see how we like to party in Brasil.

It will have be 64 years since the last world cup was in Brazil, I wasn't born last time we hosted it but I hope that it doesn’t end the same way again being beaten in the final by Uruguay.

I would really like to see the South American teams do really well this time round but for us anything less than a win will be seen as a failure, but if we win it will be the biggest party Brasil has ever seen! I just hope we can cope with the pressure and expectations.

Host Cities

The games in Brasil will be played in twelve cities Sao Paulo has highest population, Brasilia is the richest, Cuiaba is the hottest (June and July) and Curitiba is the coldest.

Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais)

Belo Horizonte is the capital city of the State of Minas Gerais.

Estádio Governador Magalhaes Pinto.

Capacity: 67,000

Belo Horizonte will host six matches of the World Cup, including one of the semi-finals.
If Brasil finish first placed in the group stage, then it will play a match in Belo Horizonte.

Matches of the World Cup 2014 in Belo Horizonte:
»June 14th 2014 (Saturday):
»June 17th (Tuesday):
»June 21st (Saturday):
»June 24th (Tuesday):
»June 28th (Saturday): Round of 16
»July 8th (Tuesday): semi-final

Brasilia (District Capital of Brasil)

Estádio Nacional Mané Garrincha

Capacity: 71,400

Matches of the World Cup 2014 in Brasilia
June 15th 2014 (Sunday):
June 19th 2014 (Thursday):
June 23rd 2014 (Monday): Brasil v
June 26th 2014 (Thursday):
June 30th 2014 (Monday): Round of 16
July 5th 2014 (Saturday): Quarter final
July 12th 2014 (Saturday): Match for third place

Cuiaba (Mato Grosso)

Estádio José Fragelli

Capacity: 43,600

Manaus is the most isolated of the World Cup cities, and one of the smallest, it is unlikely that the National Teams would prefer to have the city as a base.

Matches of the World Cup Brasil in Manaus:
June 13th (Friday):
June 17th (Tuesday):
June 21st (Saturday):
June 24th (Tuesday):

Curitiba (Parana)

Estádio Joaquim Américo Guimarães

Capacity: 42,000

Curitiba has a cold climate in June, which could attract countries looking to escape the hot weather, such as Sweden or Norway. Besides, the State of Parana has communities of immigrants from Japan, Italy and Poland, whose teams could feel a bit more at home in Curitiba.

Dates of matches:
June 16th (Monday):
June 20th (Friday):
June 23rd (Monday):
June 26th (Thursday):

Fortaleza (Ceara)

Estadio Governador Plácido Castelo

Capacity: 67,037

The Brasil team will play at least one match of the World Cup 2014 in Castelao, with good chances to play twice (there are two ways of Brasil playing the second match in Fortaleza: either if the team finishes second placed in the first stage, or if it finishes leader of first stage and wins the following match).
A growing number of Portuguese, Spanish and Italian people in Fortaleza means these countries could benefit from playing here.

Matches of the World Cup Brazil in Fortaleza:
June 14th 2014 (Saturday):
June 17th (Tuesday): Brasil x
June 21st (Saturday):
June 24th (Tuesday): Round of 16
June 29th (Sunday): Quarter Final
July 4th (Friday):

Manaus (Amazonas)

Estádio Vivaldo Lima

Capacity: 44,000

Matches of World Cup Brazil in Manaus
June 14th (Saturday):
June 18th (Wednesday):
June 22nd (Sunday):
June 25th (Wednesday):

Natal (Rio Grande do Norte)

Estadio Joao Carlos de Vasconcelos Machado

Natal will host only four matches of the Cup 2014, all in the first stage. The most important teams in Natal do not play in the major divisions, and very rarely do they bring more than 10,000 fans to the stadium. The eight teams which will play in Natal are not known yet, but it is certain that the Brasil team is not coming.
Two countries have strong Historic ties with Natal are Netherlands which invaded Natal back in the 1600s and USA, many American soldiers came to Natal during the World War II, Dutch and Americans would have much to see.

Matches of World Cup Brasil in Natal:
June 13th (Friday):
June 16th (Monday):
June 19th (Thursday):
June 24th (Tuesday):

Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul)

Estádio José Pinheiro Borda

Capacity: 56,000

Porto Alegre will host five matches of the World Cup 2014.
Nine teams will play in Porto Alegre (one team will certainly play twice). Teams are not known yet, but it is certain that the Brasilian team will not play in Porto Alegre.

Matches of World Cup Brasil in Porto Alegre:
June 15th 2014 (Sunday):
June 18th 2014 (Wednesday):
June 22nd 2014 (Sunday):
June 25th (Wednesday):
June 30th (Monday):

Recife (Pernambuco)

Arena Pernambuco

Capacity: 46,000

Recife will host five matches of the World Cup.
The teams are not known yet, but it is known that the Brasilian team will not play in Recife.
The Dutch and the British have strong connections with Recife.

Matches of the World Cup in Recife:
June 14th (Saturday):
June 20th (Friday):
June 23rd (Monday):
June 26th (Thursday):
June 29th (Sunday):

Rio de Janeiro

Estádio Jornalista Mário Filho

Capacity: 76,000

Maracanã will stage seven matches of the World Cup, including the final match; only Brasilia will stage as many matches (the smaller cities, such as Natal and Cuiaba, will stage only four matches). The Brasilian team will play in Maracana only if it manages to reach the final.
It's likely that several national teams stay in Rio de Janeiro, even if not playing here; Rio has many training centres, and an excellent hotel infrastructure, which could be used by the teams - and being the most beautiful Brasilian city, will certainly please the fans who follow the teams.

Matches of World Cup in Rio de Janeiro:
June 15th 2014 (Sunday):
June 18th (Wednesday):
June 22nd (Sunday):
June 25th (Wednesday):
June 28th (Sunday): Round of 16:
July 4th (Friday): Quarter Final:
July 13th (Sunday): Final:

Salvador (Bahia)

Estádio Otávio Mangabeira

Capacity: 50,000

Salvador will host six matches of the World Cup 2014.
The Brasilian team may play here, but that's unlikely (the team should finish second in the first stage).
Salvador and Bahia have probably the largest amount of resorts in Brasil (accommodation with large space for training and leisure), and certainly several national teams will stay here during the Cup.

Dates of matches:
June 13th 2014 (Friday):
June 16th (Monday):
June 20th (Friday):
June 25th (Wednesday):
July 1st (Tuesday):
July 5th (Saturday):

Sao Paulo

Arena Itaquera

Capacity: 48,000

Sao Paulo will host six matches of the World Cup Brasil 2014.
Sao Paulo managed to bring the opening match of the Cup to Itaquerao - the event, which will happen on June 12th 2014, should set new records of world audience, drawing lots of attention to the city.

Schedule of matches:
June 12th (Thursday): Brasil x
June 19th (Thursday):
June 23rd (Monday):
June 26th (Thursday):
July 1st (Tuesday): Round of 16
July 9th (Wednesday): Semi-final

It seems a bit odd to put Uruguay on the poll when they are in danger of not even qualifying. Portugal may be in the same boat if they have to go through the play offs.

What a shame again that we will see no Scotland competing again. Our presence will be sorely missed. Us Scot's love to have a party and Brazil would have been a brilliant adventure for the Tartan Army. Bagpipes, kilts and hot Brazilian beauties. Not to be unfortunately Cool

My smart money to win goes to the host nation. Brazil will be expected to win and win they will do.
