Actually, if you listen closely at what he says, he's pretty much on the button. And they other drivers where clearly ganging up on him, wait till you hear what he says to the management later on, this time the film company plays in the actual clips, and he's spot on everytime.

Personally, I think there's more then meets the eye, he's misunderstood, made worse by the way have puts things and phrases things.

You only have to look at some on this for people, getting the wrong end of the stick, twisting what you ACTUALLY say to make it what you want to say, then ganging up to make them look good and you look bad. I had it on the liverpool fc thread.

By and large people suck Lisa would say and not in a good way.

I imagine that you are spot on here. The way they film these shows means they have to do quite a bit of editing which means that you can never be sure of what is correct and what isn't. Lets face it, if they didn't cut out loads it would not be very entertaining- probably be just drivers in a truck belching and farting as they drove along a slippery road. (and thats just Lisa!) Doubt it would get many viewers.

As much as I enjoy these shows I do find the narration starts to grate the more I watch.
Whether its IRT, Stobarts or Winter Rescue the narrator always tries to over emphasise the potential dangers.
" Suddenly as Fat Jack is driving his big 18 wheeler along the Dalton, an old Mars bar wrapper slips across the dash board and catches the corner of his eye...if he gets distracted it could mean the end of Fat Jack and his vital cargo"
Still these shows do beat much of the other crap we get on tv

You just got to take it with a pinch of salt, enjoy the drama they try and make out of it (even though it does seem they mess with peoples lives and relationships [note his comments about maya by dave in one of the youtube clips), enjoy the scenery, enjoy Lisa'a arse and if your Kelly enjoy huge's

There's a difference between telling lies and telling lies on camera!

I recall Hugh arriving with a damaged load and seeing the damage and saying to camera that it wasn't his fault it was down to the loaders, and he'd just leave it there for the guys to unload and deal with. When the boss confronted him about it, he then claimed he didn't know the load was damaged, hadn't seen it. Pretty dumb when it was all on camera, and no doubt the boss got to see it at some point, and probably contributed to him not being offered another job on the Dalton.

As for the drama, of course they edit and try to make it appear as dramatic as possible. It's a show about lorry driving, that's pretty damn dull (look at the Stobart show ), they got to make it more exciting somehow
Same with the Maya thing, I'm sure she was bought in by the tv people specifically to try to ruffle Lisa's feathers. You got an attractive young lady in the rough tough world of the big rigs, how to make things more fun? How about bringing in another attractive young lady, so the first one doesn't just have to compete against the men, but now against the other woman as well.

Dave's real problem is he just doesn't seem to get the job. He sees it as just 'the dash for the cash', but it's a bit more than that. Most lorry driving, particularly in the States/Canada, is very solitary, long distance stuff, but the Dalton is up and down the same stretch of road over and over, with the same bunch of people around you. It's more like a regular workplace where you got to learn to get along with the other people whether you actually like them or not. Bottom line, if there's trouble in the camp and everyone else but you is getting along, and you are the one sticking out like a sore thumb, who is the boss going to sacrifice to keep the 'family' happy?

that is very true, and to be the lead in the load count.

I read people get between $30,000 - $90,000 per season, that's just the trucking pay not anyhting to do with film pay.

To be fair Dave shouldn't have been expected to babysit Maya, i'm not suprised he got furstrated and left them behind

Not in any circumstances where I might have put other people at risk, no.

I also work in a dangerous industry. That might sound melodramatic but unfortunately it's a statistical fact.

Maybe Dave is misrepresented and misunderstood. Maybe he's actually one of the best drivers they have and sacking him would be a mistake. Personally speaking I'll live with that sort of mistake a hell of a lot easier than having to watch him. or worse still, someone else, lowered into a grave knowing it happened on my watch.
It's not the same as a bit of 'office politics' or 'backroom bickering' amongst some shop staff. If you have people working in a dangerous environment then safety is king. And if a bit of injustice occurs here and there because of that, then so be it.
That's how I run my business and I make no apology for it.

He wasn't babysitting anyone. It was the first run up the road after a particularly bad storm and they were told to stick together for everyone's safety.

Which incident are you specifically refering too?

Also in my googlings I have also read truckers and so on stating the road is much safer and a lot less dangerous than the program would have you believe. I suspect that most of the road is perfectly fine with some dangerous places, the worst thing on those roads is the sudden white outs and the deep cold. I know a canadian and those white outs are deadly all over canada, apparantly loads of people go out to the shops for a paper, a white out hits, and they are only found next spring during thaws, if you loose heat and break down the cold would be a problem, but there's plenty of trucks passing to avoid poeple freezing to death. But has a road it probably won't be much more dangerous than most busy roads.

They say there is a death for every mile, it's about 414. It's been open since 1974, which works out at around 10 deaths a year. How many death have there been on the 191 miles of the M1 since 1974? I cannot find any stats but I'd put money on it being a lot more than 10 a year average.

Also the drama of going on the frozen lakes, they have specialist that ok it for trucks to go on, if they thought there was a slight risk of going through the ice they wouldn't go on it. There's one at the start of the 6 season, but to me it looks a little staged.
