I think it's pretty certain that admin would not have removed your hugging bears. If it was hotlinked somewhere else, maybe the site in question had a temporary problem.

I don't know what host you used, but I find Imagevenue hotlinked images 'break' within a day or two. This site seems pretty good for keeping the images for a decent period (well none of the photos I've hosted here have died yet) http://pixelup.net/

The bear picture probably had just gone temporarily and not run off back to the arctic. The same thing happened to one of Alex's pictures. If you wait the pictures come back OK after a while (the imagehost may have had a temporary outage or something).
