No they've scrapped that now. I'm pretty sure there was an episode of one of the spin off shows, might have been Sarah Jane Adventures, that scrubbed that theory out.

I was hoping for Tom Baker type of lasting. He's supossed to only have 13 regenerations.

Trouble is, he wasn't in demand before doing doctor who, goes with it that you'll get other offers, the bbc should pic a good replacement and have them in exclusive contract.

He had been in a few things that had earned him very good reviews. It was very much the fact he was getting to be in demand that led to him getting the role as Doctor Who. Actors are always scared that staying in one role for too long will type cast them. Tom Baker, as much as I like him probably stayed a bit too long in the role as he has never managed the same level of success since.

series 4 Death of The Doctor, he answered with 507. the whole regeneration limit is a joke created by the writers, it was introduced when hartnell no longer wanted to do the show. Time Lords have the choice not to regenerate (john simm has the master did not regenerate).

Sometimes that is not true. David Jason was Granville in Open all hours, del boy in only fools and horses, di frost in frost yet did other things which were successful. John Thaw best known for as inspector morse, he also did other shows which were successful.

In the current format 3-4 series is a good run before the current doctor becomes a bit samey. I hope the new doctor has a different personalty.

I can see why they would have put the regeneration limit on the show. In the early days, 13 regenerations would probably have seemed a long time away. As we're now almost at the end of the Eleventh Doctor's tenure, the need to wipe that storyline out would have become urgent. As long as the show is still marketable they'll keep it going.

I don't think any actor will play the role for the length of time that Tom Baker did it. Not in today's age. Between 4-5 years for me seems a decent spell. As I've said above, to keep the show marketable in today's commercial world, it has to remain fresh. Every single doctor has brought a new trait to the personality. While some have retained a trademark from one of their predecessors, they have all still added at least one or two quirks to the new doctor's character. Again, hence the need to keep it fresh.

I'd still suggest that remaining fresh should mean some new writers aswell. If the current ones have become a bit stale, which they have in my opinion, it's time for new people on board, in the cast and in the staff.

I never said anything about it being cast in stone. I simply said actors are scared of being type cast. Of course some actors like David Jason move from one successful character to another. Dr Who is a very definitive role though. Not many of the previous Doctors have shone quite as bright once they have left the show. Christopher Eccleston has had some success and of course Tennant is making an annoying career from advertising Virgin TV for beardy.
Someone a bit older would be my choice for the next Doctor. Since they restarted Doctor Who, the Doctors have all been relatively young, trying to connect with a young audience no doubt.

I did consider Rory Kinnear, but then he did that Black Mirror crap and I went off the idea.

i still think ben miller would be a good choice. he can do drama and comedy within the same show (death in paradise and primeval).
