He has been part of possibly the greatest and toughest era of mens tennis of all time. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic - 35 grand slam titles between them.
Only a couple of US Open wins for Del Potro and Murray himself broke up the domination of those 3 men of grand slam events.
Make no mistake, Murray has had to learn some pretty painful lessons in a brutally tough tennis era. But now, at long last he has reached his holy grail.
All the toil, the worry, the doubts, the pain, the misery, the despair, the wondering if if it was ever going to happen can be consigned to the bin once and for all.
He has resolved himself to work incredibly hard to reach the heights he has now scaled. Pushed himself to limits that most of us could not even begin to comprehend and let his raw emotion in triumph and despair become clear to us all.
From seeming overwhelmed by a sense of occasion and crippling fear of defeat with many a tantrum along the way to a positively focussed man on a mission who knew he was good enough to find a way to win and finally trusted his technique and his game to achieve his dream.
From trying not to lose to going full tilt for victory.
The state of mind battle has finally been won.
Inspired by opportunity instead of crippled by doubt.
He is entitled to be a very proud man tonight.
Many congratulations to him .
would have been interesting if he played federer or nadal, as he hasn't beaten them at wimbledon before, though he did beat fed at the olympics of course, but it would have been more of a test mentally, murray hasn't lost to novak on grass before and he took confidence from that and believed he could win

I think 'some of us' should actually read and understand what i put. I asked a question, I know nothing about him whatsoever or tennis for that matter any more. I have just heard rumours in the press and in the media.
Since you seem bessies with him or his publicist you said he isn't, fine. The question, do I believe you or the ones that are slating him and looking at the comments in youtube there are a very great many that slate him, in between those frothing at the mouth scotish nationlist that damn any one who call him British and not Scotish, even though I believe he's in an english house, bought with english money and enjoying english pussy!!
Ultimately I don't care, what interest I had in tennis started with Bjon Borg and those lot and finnished with Boris Becker and Graf, I was lucky pretty much the best era for tennis.

I knew that this discussion would end up going this way. OK I will agree with you that the way Alex Salmond went about his business was really childish. He shouldn't have been doing it directly behind Cameron because he was effectively sticking 2 fingers right up the the PM but that's where I'll leave it.
Andy Murray is Scottish through and through and a lot of Scot's like myself have never ever bought into waving the Union Jack. Why shouldn't we have the right to wave our beloved saltire with pride.
Also please note this has got absolutely nothing to do with the independence issue as it's a separate entity. Scotland as a nation doesn't have that many sporting achievements to shout about so when it happens ofcourse we are immensely proud. We have every right to wave the Scotland flag over the British one.
I'd also like to say too that even if Scotland still stays as part of the United Kingdom I still favour separate nations when it comes to sporting events so as far as I'm concerned yesterday was a glorious victory for Scotland and we should be entitled to celebrate it with pride. If the English want to take it as a British victory then I hold no objection to it but deep down I think they know in their hearts that's it will go down ultimately as one of Scotland's greatest achievements.
On a more serious note I remember the Dunblane massacre when news filtered through on the radio and for Andy to come through this tragedy and achieve what he has done really brings a tear to your eye. Also how commendable too to hear that he is donating all of his winnings to cancer research in an era of very greedy and overpaid footballers.
Finally once again well done to Andy Murray - You made the whole of the UK very proud and in particular us Scot's who will now have our own 1966 to talk about in years to come

If you know nothing about him, or tennis, and don't care anyway, why did you even raise the question, unless it was to cause a pointless argument?
This anti-English thing that Murray is frequently slandered with is total bullshit, emanating from an off the cuff remark he made years ago about not supporting the English football team. The usual culprits got hold of it and haven't let it go since.

RE: Andy Murray
Scottish? British? Both?.
Oh who cares? I am just so happy for him on a human and sporting level.
He has worked so damned hard, put in so much sacrifice, been through so much.
The guy gets nothing but praise from me.
I cannot think of a more deserving champion.
He ought to say to himself "Andy Murray - Wimbledon champion" over and over again.
One day he might even start to believe it really did happen .
Apparently he had a weird dream on the eve of the final thinking he was facing Radek Stepanek in the final only to wake up and realize he was up against Djokovic .
