OK so we haven't lost any games which is a positive from the group as a whole. But its hardly been inspiring stuff - if they're satisfied with a shit performance like that tonight and a 0-0 bore draw then its high time the structure of the game as a whole in this country was changed.

IMO the only way that will change if Premier league side were limited in foreign players on the pitch and on the bench. I would say 50% of the team has to made up of British players, and two youth players must be on the bench too. It's all very well farming kids out on loan to teams below the Premier but even then first team action may not be guaranteed there.
If Greg Dyke is serious that he wants England to be at least achieving World Cup Semi Finals and Euro Semi finals and finals then he needs to start knocking heads together at the Premier League and make them realise that club need to show more faith in their youth players. And at least one of substitutions in the league game must either involve a British player or youth player.
I may be well out of order but to me it would be a start in the process of us building an England team in the future that one day that we can actually be proud of.

IMO Cosmonaut I agree things need to change. Putting the kids out on loan to clubs in the leagues is good, but even then there is no guarantee of first team action there.
I would rather see a new limit on foreign players on the pitch and on the bench and at least one of the substitutions has to involve a British player or youth player. That would be IMO the only way we would ever be able to build an England team in the future that we can be proud of one day.

If Greg Dyke is serious about wanting England reaching/achieving Semi Finals and Finals of Euros and World Cups, then he has to start making the Premier sit up and realise that the Premier League clubs need to be doing more to help our youth players develop at the top level of league football.
After last night I'm thinking Alvarez V Mayweather on Saturday would have way more excitement than that!!

Amidst all the discussion on England's qualifying chances, I thought it was worth saying well done to Luxembourg for their victory over Northern Ireland and well done to San Marino for scoring a goal against Poland.

The question is and has always been, as a football fan do you want England or the league team you support to do well and win? You cannot have both.Premier league teams who win titles, cups etc are the teams who spend the most money, has been since premier league started.Man U,Chelsea, Arsenal for instance and what a surprise the year Blackburn won the league old Jack Walker spent a fortune on them.Big money means foreign players which means they are not going to risk buying home grown or youngsters up from the second teams. The managers would not last a week.So we get a lack of strength in depth coming through to the England team. Football in this country at the highest league level id driven by money and TV rights so Greg Dyke has his work cut out for him, but good luck with his plans.

Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else.

RE: England world cup 2014 qualifying campaign
While ever the Premier League carries on introducing more and more overseas players the national team will suffer .That is an obvious fact .Do the F.A. want a strong national team or a domestic league made up with basically foreign mercenaries ?
We are halfway down the road of a poor national team now .Where are the upcoming young English players of tommorrow going to come from ? The teams who regularly play in the champions league with probably Arsenal & Man Utd currently the exception ,do so with virtually a complete team of foreigners .Where are the English players going to get the European experience at club level ?
If the trend for more foreign recruitment continues in the PL , the England national team will have to be selected from the Championship .Then the players won't even be playing against quality opposition week in week out .Not to mention getting no European experience at club level at all .
What was it recently ,nearly 70% of the players in PL are non-qualifying for England ?
If the FA want a strong national team ,a restriction on overseas players as to be implimented straight away ,or the consequences are staring them in the team line ups every weekend .

And before anyone quotes the main European domestic leagues have a significant number of non-qualifying players .Quite a few of these countries players are either playing here or in the other European domestic leagues .How many current English internationals are playing abroad ?

I wonder how far up the rankings they will go after that surprise victory. And that must be first goal San Marino have ever scored in
a competitive match

You mean apart from the one against England in 1993 after 7 seconds during qualification for the 1994 World Cup? Wink
