Dr Who

Optimistic about Day of the Doctor and will certainly give it a chance but why do the bbc feel the need this weekend to ruin select episodes of recent years by having a smart arse, camp, unfunny talentless twat introducing each episode. Can only guess he is a favourite of Moffat
Will watch some of the forthcoming documentaries but not interested in a play about making the early episodes at all. Personally to celebrate 50 years of Dr Who why not put a series from each of the Doctors. Might be wrong but that would be what most fans would rather see I suspect.
Given that Tennant has been voted the 'best ever Doctor' it would also give younger fans the chance to see earlier classic episodes.

agree bytor don't like that guy that has been doing the greatest monsters and villians poll, but am liking the episodes that have been on so far this weekend.

interesting to see what is no1 tomorrow. my bet is the daleks

No.1 monster should be River Bloody Pond

I'm sick of the sight of River Song / Melody Pond (whatever her names are) too. For me one of the most annoying aspects of the show since it's return. I was hoping the reveal that she is actually just a copy downloaded in to the library's database after she died saving the Doctor in his Tenth incarnation would see her appearances dwindle. Hopefully we won't have to put up with her much longer.

Watching the Night of the Doctor mini episode with Paul McGann has whetted my appetite for past doctors. Seven minutes is just a taster - they could have gone further and made the 50th anniversary in to a two part special, similar to the End of Time parts 1 & 2. Part one could have been the Night and part two the Day. I think McGann's performance in that mini episode proved what a good fit he is for the role. I'm pleased that he's had at least some involvement in the 50th anniversary - but a feature length special would have been even better. Some brilliant lines in that mini episode - my favourites were: "I'm the Doctor. Although probably not the one you were expecting.." and "Four minutes? That's ages! Anyone for chess?"

The Eighth Doctor was more interesting in seven minutes than River Song ever was in four years.

Agreed the movie might have been americanised but he was excellent in the role and deserved a decent run. Dr Who at his best is quirky and eccentric, something that seems to have been largely lost since it got regenerated.
I am not against the actors who have recently played him and have a cautious optimism that Day of the Doctor will prove to be good, but it does seem to me that the BBC is celebrating 50 years of Dr Who largely through the last 2 Doctors. I can understand that they are targeting todays young audience but the BBC once again fails to understand the audience. It is not just for todays kids in their early teens but kids of all ages, each of whom has a favourite Doctor that they grew up with.

can see your points bytor but I think so far the 50 year celebration has been good both on the bbc and there have been some classic dr who episodes and other celebratory programmes on the watch tv channel

the top 3 greatest dr who monsters and villans are revaled on bbc3 this evening. think two of the top 3 will be the daleks and the master.

I didn't really have a doctor when I was a kid in the 80's as by the time I was old enough to watch dr who, it was pretty much finished. so my fav doctor is David Tennant.

the main things bbc are doing next week is a drama about how dr who was created called an adventure in space and time on bbc2 on Thursday, dr who the ultimate guide on bbc on Friday and then of course dr who the day of the doctor on Saturday with a show on after it looking at 50 years of dr who

If Matt Smith doctor isn't I don't know what is. Tennant had his moments as well. Eccleston was more like a shakespearian actor at it, but then, 'my doctor' John Pertwee was serious to the point of angry, which seemed to be in the same vein has the first two doctors, I think a lot of people forget that the first three where quite serious; Tom Baker (best doctor) made him uber eccentric.

All Smith and Tennant did was run around aimlessly, look vulnerable, in need of counselling and solve everything with the sonic screw driver
