Good grief, the only thing worse was the clusterfuck of a program on BBC 3 after, it had most of the companions, and most of the doctors including John Hurt and it was one of the worst tv programs I have ever seen, only the Channel 4 Michael Moore live one was worse.

It was on BBC3, what did you expect? I couldn't face watching it. Zoe Ball hasn't got 1% of the telly ability of her dad.

The episode did surmise the Moffat Rule, which is that time travel means never having to say you're sorry because you can always cheat your way to a better result. And I wasn't happy with the way the Zygon plot just fizzled out into the same awful resolution as the Silurian 2-parter from Matt's first year.

However, I did get a lot of enjoyment out of it, and the moral is obvious: Tennant & Smith start out disliking Hurt, and he dislikes them. By the end, they've worked out their differences and come to terms.

I will agree with you about the bbc3 show yesterday that was on afterwards. was absolutely awful. but I stand by my opinions about the day of the doctor episode itself

Disappointed, I thought it was only average. It may be better on a second viewing though.
Gave up on the later BBC3 program after a few minutes.

It looked like Billie Piper had used Lori's makeup artist to do her eye makeup.

yeah i found it disappointing as well prefered the tennant xmas specials ones better maybe they are saving the good stuff for the xmas one where matt smith bows out apparently he goes out in shocking fashion

the tom baker bit was nice

I'd completely forgotten about the Zygon invasion! What actually happened about that in the end? I'm sure I didn't nod off. I remember that everyone in the UNIT bunker was made to think they were Zygons so that they wouldn't blow the place up, but then it focused on freeze-drying Gallifray.

I also thought the programme was a horrible mess and the attempts at comedy totally embarrassing. The plot seemed to be a series of set pieces loosely strung together by total mumbo jumbo dialogue in an attempt to justify what was about to happen.

John Hurt was fantastic though - what a great Doctor he would have been. I also enjoyed Tom Baker at the end, a nice touch for those of us old enough to remember him first time round.

I must say that was wonderul and a suprise for me, the old bugger had still got it! That and billie pipers performances where the best things in it. Way, too much comedy from the others. The last 15 - 10 mins were fine enough but the rest was just like a normal episode and a below par one at that.

You have to bare in mind this was the 50th anaversary show and it had be trumpeted for months.

Seeing Tom Baker made me yearn for his return. Pertwee and Baker were by far my favourites. Their Doctors had a depth of character and used their brains to resolve problems logically, rather than run around all over the place and coming up with bizarre and seemingly random resolutions. The acting of the principles and the stories have never been bettered during the 50 years in my opinion. Only downside was the laughable, shaky props and sfx

I also wondered what happened to the Zygons in the special...wasn't sure if I had nodded off briefly too Having said that I kind of enjoyed the programme overall but it wasn't as great as some people are making out.

How do we know that Tom Baker wasn't a Zygon? After all, he was curating the museum containing the invasion paintings.
And that in turn would mean that the doctor has been one since then.
