(25-01-2014 16:23 )Master Yoda Wrote:  You hit the nail on the head there mate. Deals need to be done at the right price. By all accounts we had been scouting Salah for 3-4 months so this means we would have had plenty of time to see enough of him to set a value that we as a club thought the player was worth, which was 10 or 12 million pounds. So the window opens and we bid for the player according to what we value him at. Basel hold out for more as he is their star player and are entitled to try get as much as they can for him. Suddenly Chelsea come in and offer 16 million quid for the player and Basel accept. What do you do as a club? Rival that bid? Then a club like Chelsea offer more and that means you are going to have to pay nearly double the price you value a player at in order to get him. A player untried and untested in the Premier League. No, the best thing to do is walk away. We might not like it but we cant compete with the Chelseas and the Man Citys of this world when it comes to transfer fees.

I'm not overly disappointed on missing out on Salah. We have far more pressing concerns in the centre of the park firstly and in both fullback positions secondly. Our back 5 is a shambles (I include the CDM position as one of the back 5) and if we can shut the door back there then we are as good as any team in the forward half. Hopefully one or two of these problems are addressed in the coming week.

Over and out. Wink

To be honest I've only watched Basle play once & can't even remember what game it was, I'm sure he's a decent player but I'm not one for giving it the old, "Oh he's top quality, I've seen him a few times in the Champions League". That's a load of shit, every player up's their game against the best in Europe & for that reason I can't see how you can judge a player by just watching him twice a season in that competition, the same with the Armenian guy who went to Dortmund.

We're allegedly now looking at Saúl Ñíguez Esclápez (Saúl) on loan at Rayo Vallecano from Atlético Madrid, again only a youngster at 19 but well thought of, a DM/CM Rayo played him at centre back against Atlético yesterday so he must be thought highly of.

Talk of Victor Moses could be permanent in the summer, I don't see him back at Chelsea so a maximum of £9m would be a good buy, I know he's been a bit shit but he's got quality.

Along with him A left back a creative goal scoring centre mid, maybe one more if the moneys there & when fully fit we'd have a good squad for next season. I just hope we don't come out of the World Cup with another El Hadji Diouf!

looks like we were in a no win situation with this deal, pity we left so late but hopefully now the window is shut the lads can maintain their current form & kick on for a good end to the season.

RE: Liverpool FC
Sad news today, our thoughts and prayers go to his family at this sad time.

Liverpool Football Club was today saddened to learn of the passing of former striker Tony Hateley, aged 72.

Bill Shankly parted with a club record transfer fee of £96,000 to secure the services of the Derby-born centre-forward from Chelsea in the summer of 1967.

A powerful attacking presence in the Reds' team, Hateley racked up 52 appearances during his debut campaign at Anfield and registered an impressive 27 goals.

That record included a hat-trick on only his second appearance in front of the Kop and a four-goal haul in an FA Cup replay against Walsall.

Hateley began the following season, 1968-69, in Shankly's side but the pass-and-move doctrine preached by the legendary Scot did not quite fit the striker's style.

He left for Coventry City in September 1968 having featured on 56 occasions for the Reds and found the back of the net 28 times.

The Englishman later represented various clubs across the country, including Birmingham City, Notts County and Oldham Athletic.

The thoughts of everyone at Liverpool Football Club go out to his family and friends at this sad time.

RE: Liverpool FC
I know there are plenty of games left but we should be beating teams like WestBrom (no disrespect) today! and now due to Toures bad pass which led to the goal we have Everton, Tottenham breathing down our knecksSad
