was watching interview with the bloke from inmarsat was saying would be so easy to put Height and position in this satalite handshakes with planes but the companys have been cold on the idea maybe they will change there minds now

Anyone buying a SIM card in Malaysia has to show their ID card or passport to ensure that every phone number is traceable. The call the pilot took in the cockpit was made by someone using a SIM card bought a few days before by a woman with a false ID card. That's all the police know.

I have a feeling their minds will be changed for them.

An expert interviewed on the news said that the black boxes only automatically store the last 2 hours worth of voice data before a crash, so if the plane was flying for up to 7 hours off course, there may not be any voices on it if the crew were overwhelmed by smoke, or otherwise incapacitated hours before the end.
There will still be all the instrument readings on it but that could make deciphering what happened more difficult.

I've got a feeling that if they find the black boxes they will turn out to have been mysteriously disabled, just like the transponder and the ACARS were, and unfortunately the boxes would then be useless to the investigation.

Have all the passengers passed the background checks now? Is that process finally complete?

FAA Regs require a battery back up for both recorders.

Russia has still not replied despite the request to them being repeated a couple of days ago, which means that one passenger on the plane remains unchecked, Nikolai Brodskii. However a few media reports say he was a professional diving instructor who was travelling back to Russia, where he lived in a Jewish community, after he'd been on a diving holiday in Indonesia.
