Totally agree, i pressed the blue button and listened to the 5Live commentary after around 20 minutes. I couldn't handle Neville for a minute longer.
Only trouble was the 5Live commentary was about a second ahead of the pictures

I'm surprised no one has (that i've noticed) brought up the fact of the English players fitness. Our lads were dropping like flies while the Italians didn't seen to have any problems with cramp etc.
I was also pleased to see the spirit shown towards each other. No real bad fouls to speak of and even had the Italians helping our lads out when they had a touch of cramp at one point. Really good to see a game played out in that spirit

cos every1 is too busy making rooney the scapegoat. i think only 1 italian went down and maybe 4 or 5 english. i wouldnt think fitness wud be a problem though especially with alot of the team not playing in european football over the past season but who knows.

It's because people EXPECT so much from Rooney. Gerrard is seen as on a lower level and isn't subject to the same expectations.

If Gerrard had got the kind of assist that Rooney got he would have been praised for it, but with Rooney so much more is expected.

why do people expect more from rooney? so is it fair that when england dont win that rooney is made the scapegoat? i thought gerrard was the national hero captain fantastic who the players look at for inspiration to pull us through unless im wrong. i think hodgson has learnt from this match and against uruguay he will play rooney in a central position where england will get more from him, prob put the pace on the wings to get at uruguays slow full backs.

couldn't agree more, if gerrard has another bad game he should be dropped all i hear is people slating the defence and rooney, btw im not disrespecting costa rica but we should be beating them, just cos they had one shock result don't mean they are a good side, osasuna beat atlectico madrid 3-0 last season and still got relegated, holland beat spain 5-1 but it don't mean they are so good that they are gonna beat Australia 8-0

No the difference between Gerrard and Rooney is that we have plenty of other options in rooney position. gerrards role is more of a leader the main reason for Gerrard and lampard to be there now is a leadership role especially with the kids Gerrard booked his place as he had a great season with liverpool and the fact that we qualified. lampard is there just in case gerrard goes off

the fact that rooney traveled the most yet hardly touched the ball showed how bad he was. thus making baines look bad

what is rooneys position then? cos yesterday majority of the match he was on the left side being wasted was he not? if as cosmonaut said we expect so much from our star player then dont waste him on the left running around where he doesnt get the ball in dangerous positions. play him centrally. we expect alot from him so play him where he plays at his best or dont play him at all then. its pointless playing him out on the left and expect him to defensively help baines out cos i always thought wayne rooney was an offensive player yet we use him defensively

It's SIMPLE you don't play Rooney on the LEFT WING!!! Roy totally screwed Rooney over I feel....... Wayne is never going to be able to out sprint a left back it's simply not his game end off!

You either play Rooney right UP FRONT or put him on the BENCH simple! Rooney is best playing the out and out striker none of this behind the forward shite or on the wings!

Having said that he did make the goal from been out wide lol and to be fair not a lot of people could have picked out that beautiful pass into Daniel put on a plate for him by wazza! So Rooney has had unfair critics last night in my eyes as he was the one who put it on a plate and gave all us English fans something to shout about....

The Media slating Rooney over and over again is simply not fair on him it's got to be messing with his head!

For me I would play 4-3-3 Rooney playing the out and out striker get Sterling just to his left and Sturrige to the right.... Playing Stevie G, Henderson and Milner in the middle.
