David Coulthard states that the Mercedes incident is good for F1.

He figures that there will be more viewers and spectators following the next GP.

Why on earth would Lewis slow down? He had the racing line, Nico wasn't even alongside him to make a pass so he wouldn't have expected to have to slow down. Any other driver would have taken the line just as Lewis did. What Nico should have done is back out of it just like Vettel did in the same situation. It was entirely Nico's fault, how is making deliberate contact with your team mate (or any other car in that position) on the second lap of a race after you've made a poor start making a point about not being a number 2 driver?

Mercedes have been polling fans on twitter today :

Quote:MERCEDES AMG F1 @MercedesAMGF1 · 11h
OPINION: Team orders or free racing? There’s been a lot of debate since Belgium – this is a chance to have your say... #TeamBossThursday #F1

Quote:MERCEDES AMG F1 @MercedesAMGF1 · 6h
The people have spoken! 92% of you favour free racing, 8% team orders. Now, Let’s take it one step further... #F1

To the 92% in favour of free racing, what sanctions would you impose for breaking the ‘no contact’ rule? #F1

RE: Formula 1
Statement posted on facebook by Nico Rosberg.

Quote:In the days since the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa, I have spent a lot of time thinking about what happened during the race and discussing it with the team.
I have already expressed my regret about the incident but, after meeting with Toto, Paddy and Lewis today, I wish to go a step further and describe it as an error of judgement on my part.
The number one rule for us as team-mates is that we must not collide but that is exactly what happened.
For that error of judgement, I apologise to Lewis and the team. I also want to say sorry to the fans who were deprived of our battle for the lead in Belgium.
Lewis and I have been given clear instructions about how we race each other.
As drivers, we have a clear responsibility to the team, the fans of the sport, our partners and Mercedes-Benz to deliver clean racing. We take that responsibility very seriously.
I look forward to concluding the season with hard, fair competition on and off track right up to the final lap of the season in Abu Dhabi.

RE: Formula 1
^^^ sounds sincere enough, but i feel that nico,s reputation will forever be tarnished by this incident,he will always be labelled as a cheat, just as sebastian vettel, despite all his titles,is forever tarnished by the multi 2-1 incident, lets hope both drivers adhere to the new rules laid down by mercedes and we get a fitting end to a great season with a fair fight till the end TongueTongueTongue

there is no dark side of the moon really
as a matter of fact its all dark

RE: Formula 1
So come the end of the season and Nico is champion by 1 point over Hamilton, what a hollow victory that will be. I'm sure he will be reminded of the fact too. Important
I agree with the comment above, Nico's name is forever tarnished bladewave

RE: Formula 1
In the news, they are saying that Nico has been 'disciplined' by the mercedes team for the collision.

However, the team refuses to say what this discipline involves. Nicki Lauda is reported as saying that they can do much more than a slap on the wrist but won't elaborate.
What can they do really? A fine won't hurt him and threatening to let him go won't matter as he will be hot property in the transfer market. One theory is that Lewis could be given preferential treatment in future team orders, but why should Nico give any heed to them if he is intent on winning the championship.
Anyhow, whatever they do is more to do with pandering to Lewis's hurt feelings. Poor boy. Maybe being angry will help him up his game.
