RE: Dr Who
For my money the last few series have been very poor .Probably 1-2 good episodes per series .But then again it was just the same in the '70's.
Take away the modern cgi's and it's a very poor sci-fi drama .
I think the only reason it was successful on its return this centuary was the novelty of the cgi's and the script writers having a dozen or more years to think some new characters and plots up .
They also had the benefit of a fresh start and a new generation audience ,who were Dr Who "virgins"so to speak .
It looks like the "new generation" are getting fed up with these "sophisticated" sub-plots to the main story sort of thing .You know what I mean ;
The series finale ,where all the events in the single episodes vaguely tie-in to the overall series main story .It was clever first couple of times ,but for me it's a bore now .
The hype is killing it .It needs a rest ,maybe a Christmas "special" for a couple of years until they get some decent ideas on board .
It must be difficuilt having to meet the annual series s' script demands / deadlines .This can only result in lower quality standards ,due to production demands / deadlines.

RE: Dr Who
Yes I did see it, I know she's the impossible girl, but it's not fully explained why she is the impossible girl or why she seems to be some form of guardian angle looking over all off the time lords incarnations, why she is there or who sent her.

Unless I missed all that explanation, for all we know she ties in to Missy or connected to her.

Go back and watch it again - I will too, unless I'm mistaken (I could be!) it's all explained there, well mostly, or some.... Nothing is ever fully explained.

Although I thing the series has gone way down hill since DT left, some of his episodes were brilliant and very few poor ones - the odd one or two but not like MS or PC.

RE: Dr Who
^^^^ I don't think it was the "Day of The Doctor" that explained Clara's "Impossible Girl" mystery - I think it was an episode just before that with The Great Intelligence in it, that showed how she got into all his past timestreams-
that episode only just showed a quick peek of John Hurt Doctor?

I could be wrong though - I skipped most of Matt Smith's last couple of seasons.

The Day of The Doctor was much more about John Hurt and the whole Time War/destroying Gallifrey stuff, as well as some superfluous Zygons and embarrassing Queen Elizabeth stuff : the Clara mystery definitely wasn't a big part of it as I remember.

lazydays - rise above your username and watch the Name of the Doctor. I assure you that what biggles has told you is correct, although it's not Day of the Doctor, that was the one with John Hurt. As MLL pointed out, it is in the Name of the Doctor that the Impossible Girl conundrum IS fully explained in that story. If you still don't get it then you must be missing all of the explanation. There are other things which we could do with finding out about Clara but how she's able to exist multiple times over is not one of them - we know how.

Going back to this weekend's episode - I'm sorry to say that after a few promising episodes with Listen, Time Heist and The Caretaker, all the recent good work was flushed down the toilet with a fucking dragon thing being hatched out of the Moon which turned out to be a giant egg after all this time. Do me a fucking favour - what a load of shite. I can't blame Moffat solely this time as the writer for Kill The Moon (a stupid title in itself) was Paul Wilmshurst, but obviously as show supremo Moffat isn't going to escape the criticism again.

I found this last episode frustrating and downright stupid. It just didn't make sense and had no place in a Doctor Who series. It also doesn't look right for me to see this Doctor blundering about in a space suit. I think Capaldi's Doctor is far better suited to more serious roles, as we'd seen glimpses of with the three episodes before this one.

Very disappointed again with Who after Saturday but I suppose we have come to expect it to deliver these showers of shite during Moffat's painful leadership. annoyed Sad

Firstly, I see no reason to be insulting. Secondly, no I'm no geek, nerd or whovian just somebody who watches an episode once, not someone who gets irate over a reference to series three, episode 4, 15 mins and 35 secs in being incorrect.

What you said there doesn't seem to say WHY she is there or WHO, if any one, is behind her being there, which was actually my question.

This too may have been explained, but it is a long time ago and I don't have the money to by all the box sets.

To be honest, has a more casual viewer. I'm actually more bemused has to why everybody on this thread is saying how terrible it is, when on youtube and else where they seem to have to opposite reaction; you must be the experts I guess.

RE: Dr Who
I can't and don't speak for anyone else when I criticise the recent years of Dr Who. It is just my opinion and if no one else shares that view then fine. Maybe Youtube is full of adoring fans, thats fine too. I'm happy that some people enjoy it so much but I never class myself an expert... just old enough to know what I like and don't like.

RE: Dr Who
I'm not a ''Whovian'', but I am a lover of all things science fiction, so my complaint is that it's just not good enough. Maybe they dumbed it down for an American audience (no offence intended, but it does happen) and seeing as that's where they're likely to make the bulk of their money/funding, I think that could play a part in them getting away with the current output.
Saturday night viewing it's supposed to be for all the family, so instead of being a U, it should be the upper end of PG...so not childish.
I'm intending to record the show from now on so I don't waste any of my Saturday night on it, if the reviews from sources I trust (mainly you guys) are positive for the most part then I'll watch it, but if not (like last weeks), I'll just delete it and not bother, which I did.

No insult intended dude - just having a play with your chosen username. Just trying to help - apologies if that came out wrong.

RE: Dr Who
Thing is, I'm nearly 50, my 'first' doctor was John Pertwee, I watched it all through Tom Baker, I can't stand Peter Davison so I ended it there, and then started it with Christopher Eccleston to present.

Whereas there are a lot of things I dislike about it, the chopping and changing of actors and companion, which seems to be a CV tick to me and a career boost. The writers shoving their believes and lifestyles down peoples throats. The soppy, I'm so sensitive, doctors of late. The will they, won't they with doctor and companion etc etc etc. But what keeps me watching is by and large they are very well made.

Doctor who episodes have always been mix, like top of the pops, some episodes where rubbish, most average with good and bad in them and some fantastic; I actually cannot see any difference over all.

I have read somewhere that older people like this new series a lot better and I think it has to do with it being more like the ones we watched as children. Capaldi's doctor to me is very much like Pertwee, it's not lost on me that he wears a sort of Victorian frock coat, I suspect he's a lot influence by Pertwees doctor but with added humour.

One thing I REALY do dislike is the Sonarans being made in to comedy side kicks, those things frighten the life out of me as a kid.
