After seeing an amateur video of the crash it's a miracle he's still alive.

Just watched as on tv you cant even see where the car is - unfortunate that a F1 car is a wedge shape so it just ploughs underneath it, a normal car or saloon racing car would have hit it and bounced off.

Just hope the guy pulls through.

I can see a change of regulations here, maybe some sort of protection on recovery vehicles

The fact that the impact shoves the tractor unit into the air speaks volumes. That he survived the crash at all is a miracle. I hope he pulls through and goes on to make a full recovery.

There's no need for any "protection" on recovery vehicles, just slow the cars down PROPERLY when Recovery & Marshals are required to come out from behind the barriers.

The Code 60 system that has been introduced into Sports Car racing in the last few years is perfect for this. Simply run a section of the track before the incident under double waved yellows and slow the cars to 60KPH. Anyone exceeding this gets a hefty penalty.

They were bloody lucky half a dozen Marshals were not killed on Sunday and they don't get a penny for being there.

Wasn't safety car deployed at the time? I know the medical car was also out at the same time. And recall James Allen saying that to see both the safety car & medical car out at the same time WAS unusual. I wonder how Bianchi came off that the point Sutil was I don't even recall BBC showing the incident of Sutil's crash in race at the time and if they did I missed it!! I'm probably right to say for him to come off at the same point where Sutil was like a brake failure or lock. I guess the tractor what some damage too.

Just hope any progress reports are good news for Bianchi

60kph wouldn't be nearly slow enough for that sort of impact. The rear 'bumper' on the machine, where the car hit, is a solid counter-weight for the lifting boom on the front. It could easily weigh 2 tonnes on its own.

To my mind, it was a very bad call by the marshals to put that recovery vehicle out there at all, in those conditions, in direct line of fire, on a corner where one car had already aquaplaned off. Once Sutil was safe his car should have been left there and Bianchi would probably have walked away from his crash, even if he hit Sutils car instead of the tyres.
