Sky Sports News reporting that West Brom have sacked Alan Irvine.

Hmm..another mid season sacking, like the previous two he should never have been given the job in the first place. Lets hope the next one is chosen on ability and experience and not price

I am not in a position to judge Irvine's ability so I'll leave that to the West Brom fans. I will say however that he and all the other 'head coaches' who have little or no say in which players are transferred in or out of their club are in a dodgy position to start with. How can someone get the best out of or motivate a team if they have players they may not want.
Football is a weird world at times and quite baffling. Let managers be managers and should they then fail...well then they can at least fall on their swords knowing they failed with their clubs full resources available to them.

im sure tim sherwood and any other manager see it as easy money go in for 6 months a year and make about a million quid in compensation when they sack u lol

It is only in the last few months that the West Brom managers position has become a poisoned chalice, before the appointment of steve clark it was a plum job for any manager to get. Clark, Pepe Mel and Irvine were the wrong choices, yes men hired on the cheap. None of them had a decent track record, being the number two at Chelsea does not make you qualified to run a premiership club. At the moment they are talking to Tony Pulis so hopefully we may get someone who knows what he is doing.

Still no official word from Palace regarding Pardew, and Pulis has slipped down the reckoning for West Brom, replaced by Tim Sherwood.
I'm guessing the issue for Pardew may be whether he will be manager or coach, i.e. will he have any say in transfers. That seems to have been the key issue that caused Pulis to leave, and is probably why he looks unlikely to take the West Brom job.


EDIT : BBC now reporting that Pulis does indeed have the West Brom job having been given assurances that he will control all first team affairs despite their 'continental' structure (notably saying he will be head coach, not manager).
They are saying it is likely to be confirmed tomorrow. Also saying that the two haven't met yet (chairman and Pulis), all negotiations being handled by his lawyers and agent so far. Sounds like he was keeping a distance until his assurances were met.
Sensible move by Brom to agree to his demands, he is probably their best hope of staying up right now. Remains to be seen if the arrangement can last though, it sounds eerily familiar to the business at Palace. If he keeps them up, will the chairman and others try to get involved over the summer and cause him to walk again?
