For the first time. The Premier League has always had at least 1 Scottish manager and as recently as 2011 there were 7: Ferguson (Man Utd), Lambert (Norwich), McLeish (Aston Villa), Moyes (Everton), Kean (Blackburn), Coyle (Bolton), Dalglish (Liverpool).

RE: Football Banter
would love to see how that compares to the Championship well i know we have 4 at Rovers and also would love to know how may english players are playing in the SPL

And not one Scottish player in top 4 or 6 clubs

get the feeling that scottish players are getting priced out of the premiership clubs

RE: Football Banter
Success has to be measured relative to each individual club these days .Nobody expects the PL to be won outside of the "usual suspects", i.e. Chelsea ,Man.City ,Man.U. ,Arsenal and possibly Liverpool .
So therefore ;
Moyes at Everton had relative success for over a decade ,making them competetive with the top 6.Didn't they qualify for CL once or twice as well as Euefa / Europa Competitions .
Lambert ,Coyle and McCleish all won promotion to PL with different unfancied clubs Norwich ,Burnley and Birmingham, respectively. They were then headhunted by other clubs listed in the previous post ,basically because of these relative successes .
Wonder how well Ferguson and Dalglish would have done , if they hadn't had the financial advantages of Man.U. , Liverpool and Blackburn .When their "golden periods" happened ,when they had bsubstantially bigger spending powers than the rest had ,at the time .
Ironic now ,when you hear Man U and Liverpool fans bleating "Chelsea and City are "buying" the titles " They did it for two decades and more .

Yet some people still harp on about how young English players aren't breaking through into first teams this season and England will suffer internationally To me it seems there are more young English players in premier first trams than ever before...

You do have some merit in what you are saying. United, Liverpool, Leeds etc did all have more money to spend than other teams back then. However, they also invested in youth team policies that brought many youngsters through to the first team. Think of the kids of 92 at United for example or the great players that came through the ranks of Liverpool in the 70's and 80's. Its a different game today with obscene amounts of tv money to waste. Two or three losses and a manager is suddenly at risk, meaning that the top teams will now buy a squad rather than invest in it's development.

RE: Football Banter
Actually thats not true Liverpool always brought players from lower leagues. Liverpool only really started bring youngsters in in the early and mid 90's with Players like Fowler, Owen, Caragaher and Stevie G

Even the so called buying the title from rovers most of the squad were 2nd string squad players from teams like southampton, norwich city

in fact Blackburn spent less on the winning side than united did to come 2nd Wink

although that said if Cantona hadnt of kung fu kicked that palace fan thing might have been a whole lot different outcome

RE: Football Banter
^ Blackburn Rovers set the blueprint of how the larger teams are now run.
They started the squad system. And they filled their team with quality British players. The only difference is that the players brought in now are not home grown.
These were exciting times at Blackburn and they fully deserved to win the trophy.
