Hopefully the sycophantic Clarkson apologists will go away now or follow him to wherever he resurfaces to enjoy his base humour and intolerant comments.

It wasn't in the work place, it was in an hotel after work. Would be like you getting the sack for having a bust up with a work friend at a pub on a saturday night. Happens up and down the contry every weekend, nothing to do with work. Sounds to me like the producer was an agent provocatuer. Almost as if the politically correct broadcasting company was looking for an excuse, and since clakson hasn't ACTUALLY done anything to get the sack over one had to be manufactured.

On a second, why does May have to go? he did more programs than top gear with the bbc.

My thoughts exactly. Hammond has FINALLY got his chance, the chance he's waited years for- to be top dog at Top Gear. His ego won't allow him to leave the Beeb. He'll front a new car show, either on his own, or with a team of minions.

They were there on work business, the hotel being paid for on work expenses, that makes it a work related incident.
I know several people over the years who have been disciplined for behaviour in hotels while on courses etc

May won't neccessarily leave the BBC entirely, he can continue with his other projects, but his Top Gear contract is about to expire, so he can choose not to renew it and move on from that show.

Sky have put out a statement saying they have no plans to employ Jeremy Clarkson.

Clarkson left the BBC with no choice. If this had been a first offence he might have got off with a warning, but he was already on a final warning by his own admission.

His supporters should try assaulting a colleague in or out of company time and see what happens. Any half decent employment contract will have a disrepute clause at the very least, which will also cover comments made on Twitter / Facebook etc.

Various legal commentators have said today that the place in question was effectively the workplace and not an after work location.

Clarkson has gone, end of. No doubt he will go on to make more millions with his dont give a fuck attitude. No big deal. The world, and car shows will go on with or without him.

RE: Top Gear
The BBC had the option not renew Clarkson's contract , which runs out at the end of March, but chose the hard line by sacking him.

I'm no lawyer but that shouldn't it go down as expenses rather than a work place?

Claiming for travel to and from a work place and accommodation due to a work placement is probably different to the ACTUAL workplace. Pretty sure the BBC would manage to get off of paying compensation to his family if he'd choked on his sandwich or auto-asphxyated himself in the hotel room.

I suppose it's a muddy area and both claims can be made.
