That would have increased the chances od UKIP being coalition with either Labour or Conservatives but I reckon any winning Government would struggle to make any working coalition without UKIP being involved

However what's happened has happened and now we have the sickening prospect of 5 bloody long years under a Conservative Government in which this time they'll be no Lib Dems to contain them as the working class are just about to be fucked anal style.

This article makes for grim reading. I just hope in the short term the SNP stands up to the Tories, followed by Labour once they have regrouped.

Well if you will read the daily mirror just the left wing version of the sun have to rememebr any paper who had Piers morgan as their editor is hardly the arbitors of the truth as they were caught up inhacking scandal as well

watching Sunday politics before Liz kendall was on labour party mp and prospective leadership candidate and have to admit she did great totally honest assesment no bullshit even gave andrew neil a run for his money

loved her response when neil asked her where the ed stone was said she didnt know but if she does find will take a selfie with it and send it to him Wink

Well just look at what happened to Germany in the 1930's when they allowed the Nazi's in as part of a coalition. Secondly as I've already pointed out the Queen chooses the Government and would not approve of any sort of dealings with UKIP and for as long as the monarchy remains we will always have that cushion of protection.

In theory the Queen could have phoned Ed Miliband and asked him to form a Government despite The Conservatives winning the election however that would make a mockery of democracy but under exceptional circumstances such as a UKIP victory then she still legally does have the power as it's written in the constitution.

RE: General Election Vote
^ could you prove the Queen chooses the government please SB as I'm not sure you are correct. Also why would the Queen refuse a coalition including UKIP (I don't support them) if you think she would have approved a coalition involving the SNP who want to leave the Union.

RE: General Election Vote
Official Website Of The British Monarchy Wrote:After a general election, the appointment of a Prime Minister is the prerogative of the Sovereign.

In appointing a Prime Minister, the Sovereign is guided by constitutional conventions. The main requirement is to find someone who can command the confidence of the House of Commons.

This is normally secured by appointing the leader of the party with an overall majority of seats in the Commons, but there could still be exceptional circumstances when The Queen might need to exercise discretion to ensure that her Government is carried on.

When a potential Prime Minister is called to Buckingham Palace, The Queen will ask him or her whether he or she will form a government.

Yes it is indeed true, I have quoted this from the official website of the monarch.

RE: General Election Vote
I wonder how the Constitution would survive if Charles was King? If Charles had to make the decision I don't think he would make the right choice as I don't think politics is one of his strong points.

RE: General Election Vote
^ I've read the same myself and all is not as you seem to believe. But so be it I can rest in peace knowing that the Queen would have refused any government relying on SNP! Big Laugh

If you seriously think she would refuse any government constitutionally elected by the people then I'm afraid you are wrong as it would spell the end of the monarchy.

RE: General Election Vote
Just thought I'd leave this here.

Quote:Constitutional monarchy is a form of government in which a king or queen acts as Head of State. The ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected Parliament, not with the Monarch.

Thanks skully for clarifying the situation with regards to the monarchy and the Government, in which case I welcome farage and his merry band of jokers to form the next UK Government in 2020 because by which point Scotland will have already declared it's Independence and I'll be laughing my arse off along with the rest of my fellow countrymen when I see that full time chain smoking alcoholic Farage stumbling his way into Number 10 Wink

RE: General Election Vote
SB do you know if the UK Parliament has to give permission for another referendum vote as they did last time? If that is the case can you ask Nicola to be nice please or we won't let her Bounce

Seriously if the Scots and I mean the Scots because it's not just the SNP want independence then they should have it. By then we will have English votes for English laws anyway.

I do recall a recent democratic independence vote which categorically voted no but I guess you want to have a vote every few years until you get the answer that you want.
