RE: Porn Filters
The other day I was unable to access this website or any other adult website as I kept getting hit with a blocked notice from BT, I even logged into my BT account and deactivated all filers but to no success so I had to make all what could be described as an embarrassing phone call.

The women I spoke to asked to name which sites or just one of them to which my answer to her was mind your own fucking business, she told me that it was a server issue and apologised to me before going through a set of procedures in order to deactivate the filters once again.

I suspect something sinister in all of this as I bet I wasn't the only one that got hit with this notice so I'd imagine more than me had to make the dreaded phonecall. I wonder if this is only the start and a sign of things to come.

I've had the same thing with Sky. I just get around it by using a VPN or a Proxy like Hola.

People who think they know everything are a great annoyance to those of us who do.

RE: Porn Filters
Had it with BT myself last year. Nothing sinister - just incompetence. Had to call them and agree to a call back 3 days later because they were very busy to which I replied "I'm not surprised" In the end it rectified itself overnight. I've also had the issue with vodaphone where they reset the filters and I had to phone them as it was blocking me watching Danni Levy on my phone. Now that time I was angry!

I don't mean to be intrusive here gents but when I hear talk of a VPN or a Proxy it makes me wonder if some of you are living outwith the UK because unless the content you are viewing just so happens to be illegal in your country then there really is no reason why you shouldn't contact your internet provider and tell them to remove the filters.

I got hit with the same problem with BT somehow applying the parental controls to my account, but I didn't make any phone call. I logged into my BT account to check the controls and they were not turned on, so I couldn't figure out what was happening. I decided to turn the controls on and see what that did. It seemed to work as it should with them now showing as on, so I then went and turned them back off again to see what that did. Fortunately it did the trick and the controls were now off and I was able to use the internet normally. So basically if anyone gets hit with this issue, try turning the controls on and off as I did and see if that clears the problem.

Thats the basic problem with all these schemes. Even if you dont want filters because there are no children in your home and you are a responsible web user, you still have to go on a database that gets checked every time you connect to a web site.

Thats quite apart from the ISPs system logging every page you access.

And the question of who compiles the lists.

And the equipment largely being built by Chinese firms run by people who were formerly linked to the Chinese Army, who could in theory gain access to your web history. Any MPs, Judges, senior military, civil servants or journalists should be worried.

Also it is not impossible for operators of dodgy websites to keep access lists and convert those into names.

And dont forget the search engines.

Drifted slightly off the point, which was that these systems put everyone through access control, even if they have opted out, and could keep embarrassing histories.

Unlike TV remote controls (for now).

^Makes using a VPN, not such a bad idea now does it.
