Budget summer 2015

^Will they do someth.ing like that though. My gut instinct is no. They go for easy targets like the poor, disabled etc.

Well Amazon I recall have already switched their sales to the UK from Luxembourg and I thought the Government had previously confirmed they would tax such companies on their UK sales anyway.

A higher rate of VAT for Amazon?
So instead of collecting the taxes from Amazon, they would continue to channel their profits elsewhere, while I, who already pay my share of taxes, would have to pay their taxes for them through the higher prices caused by the extra VAT.

Voters are often dumb, but they aren't that dumb, I think they would soon see through that, and Amazon would be quick to point it out if needed, and the government would lose precious support come election time.

Amazon pays VAT its corporation tax on there profits they seem to have a problem with so easiest way would be to make them more in VAT to cover the cost of the Corporation tax they get out of paying.

Im guessing people would soon find other online shops to buy there goods from if they were cheaper at other UK retailers

Im guessing Amazon would be scared of losing there 320 Million profits in the UK to other shops than paying there fair share

Basically telling the american companys most are that if you want access to the lucrative UK market we will get the Tax they owe one way or another

Amazon or any other retailer do not pay VAT on the goods sold..they act us unpaid tax collectors for HMRC and pass on the VAT (if not zero rated goods) paid, by the end customer.

Exactly, it's US the customer that pays VAT, not the company.

Anyhow, we are digressing, this was just a suggestion, it's not an actual part of the budget

Unfortunately revenues from that source are not hardening in fact with the current dearth of quality they could be described as limping along
