Just enjoy the brutal thrashing we are giving them because you know it will be a case of when not if they will return the favour in the future. If that involves twiddling our thumbs over the weekend afternoons so be it.

I agree.
If it were me I would want to rack up 500-600 making sure the bowlers are tired, weary and fed up.
Then go and bowl Australia out again cheaply.
England need to inflict as much psychological damage as possible and show absolutely no mercy whatsoever.
This way we can go the Oval and have Australia really down and flat and go for a 4-1 series win.
Any talk of sympathy for any opposition I will never support.
Especially an opposition that has inflicted two 5-0 drubbings out to England in recent times.
My attitude has always been to win and win by the biggest possible margin to humiliate the opposition.
Some might say that's nasty.
I say it's doing your job and dismantling the confidence of the opposition to make them feel that they can't beat you and in the process making life much easier for you and harder for them going forward.
The issue for me is that such ruthlessness is just not typically in the British psyche. We too easily start feeling sorry for these sportspeople when in my view we should not.
They get paid enough and they have the privilege of representing their country so quit bitching and get on with it.
So no messing around tomorrow please England.
Get a big lead and roll em over a second time.

Nah I would say get 300 lead then declare and let aussies bat again dont want the bowlers out there for a while tiring themselves out its only first day no way the aussies can make more than 250 on that pitch with the way it moves

England will bat as long as they can. The longer they make it last the better.
The cricket authorities can't afford to give refunds for Saturday and Sunday.

Quite right Snookered we should grind the aussie bowlers into the dirt and make sure they are physically and mentally broken, if England can bat until lunch on saturday they would have a lead of around 650 leaving Australia no chance of winning and batting only for time. The aussie middle order is extremely fragile with most of them playing for their places, if they suffer a heavy defeat in this test it will probably be the last tour for many of them. This is Englands chance to completely destroy the aussie,s morale and send them home humiliated to face the wrath of their press.

@snookered147 I'm totally in agreement with you. However I would add that in my opinion it is disrespectful to go easy on the opposition when you sense that victory is in the bag. I would rather lose 6-0 at football, by 50 points at rugby and by an innings and 200 odd runs at cricket knowing the opposition were going flat out, rather than by a respectable margin knowing the opposition played within themselves. It's not the defeats that make the man it's his response to them.

18 years of waiting for us to regain the ashes and as you stated previously 2 5-0 whitewash ashes defeats at the hands of the Australians makes me want us to get the Australians on their knees and make them grovel . With apologies to Tony Grieg
Nothing I find more refreshing than drinking a glass of Australian tears.

RE: Ashes series 2015
think England will bat as long as they can today to eliminate any chance of Australia winning & demoralise them. they need to get a lead of at least 350-400.

probably to early to say this, think England will regain the ashes at some point this weekend

RE: Ashes series 2015
Despite all our jingoism(mine especially) who is to say Australia are not capable of getting us out quickly and setting a challenging target?
I remember Essex in the 80s once getting Middlesex out for less than 50 and Middlesex getting 600 in their second innings. same as with Surray. Surray were out for similar score and Essex had to hold on for a draw.

I know it's all highly unlikely but refuse to take anything for granted even though yesterday was unbelievable. I hope to live many years and bore future generations to come by reliving that moment. On saying that still not going to take anything for granted.

RE: Ashes series 2015
I remember back in 1983 Surrey were bowled out for 14 in their first innings by Essex and still managed to draw the game but it will take a monumental effort for Australia to get anything out of this match especially if England get a lead in excess of 400. I expect the pitch to become much easier to bat on during the next couple of days so it will not be quite so easy to bowl the aussies out second time around. However the psychological effect of facing such a huge deficit and having to bat for the best part of two days with virtually no hope of winning the game will put immense pressure on their batsmen and that i believe will be the deciding factor.

Would rather Bowl them out in 2-3 days than let them go on for 5 days

I doubt if the word 'declare' has even been mentioned in the England dressing room. The innings will go on until Australia take all 10 wickets.
