Seriously? Beryl Reid, seriously; thats your example? Someone needs to scan imbd.
You could start with "classic BBC drama" Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy & its sequel Smiley's People, starring Alec Guinness, Ian Richardson, Beryl Reid & scores of others Cool

Perhaps you could tell us about Rufus Hound's acting chops in return?

Yes we could, in which she had an incredibly small part, both tv programs I have on dvd, having recently watch tinker, and about to watch smileys, which she is credited as being in 1 episode in each series. You would have been much better off pointing out her best role in The Killing of Sister George.

Nevertheless, it remains a fact that as well known and well love she was, she was nothing more than a minor character actress (that character a dotty brummie).

As regarding Rufus Hound, no idea, personally I never mentioned him. I've seen him on celebrity juice, I believe he is a comedian or something, that in mind, I think he actually took a good role and played it rather well, possibly with a hint of more to come from him.

When I say actor I was thinking more of Ecclestion, Tennant, Matt Smith, Peter Capaldi. John Pertwee and Tom Baker my have been iconic doctors but they were very much ham actors and I don't think would have the acting chops of the modern doctors, even if the modern ones are not as iconic, and with the exception of capaldi, never will be.

Capaldi is a proper doctor, he knows it, he's about 10 years older than me and will have grown up on them and seen them through the years.

LOL We're just going to have to agree to disagree where acting is concerned.

It would be a very strange world if everybody thought the same thing.

The Doctor is such a larger than life character though isn't it right that the actors that play him over act and are completely gregarious, it's very difficult on the other hand for other people to come in for the 1 episode and make an impact as the regular actors know their role so well and how the crew works.

Ironically, probaly thats why people think eccleston - smith can't act becasue they are actually acting with eccentricities rather than the full out over acting of other doctors.

RE: Dr Who
the dr is meant to eccentric and quirky which means people underestimate him or think he has no plan. eccleston/smith both got the character right. capaldi is playing a different style dr but is quirky and eccentric as well.

RE: Dr Who
We never really got the chance to see CE's doctor develop that much - he played him as a tortured soul due to the loss of the Time Lords and it was Rose that helped him through it and then he was gone.

MS's doctor was let down by too many poor scripts but played the old man in a younger body quiet well.

PC's Doctor seems to be developing well only Time will tell
