I can see why they've done it. Chris Evans is a nobody outside these shores.
He'll either be great at it, or he'll bomb. I guess we'll just have wait and see.

Would like to know what the bbc are paying him hope its not the 1 million an episode he was getting in the latter stages of Friends

The opinion piece in today's Guardian points out that this announcement is the BBC nailing their colours to the mast that the new TG will have a different gentler , warmer, humour and tone from the Clarkson era. Le Blanc remains easy on the feminine eye; it appears TG can no longer afford to neglect the blunt appeal to a female audience.

Two tiny production titbits from what was otherwise the usual retread in yesterdays Guardian:
Le Blanc wasn't present at yesterday's "production meeting" in some London pub.

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the corporation, set to unveil the new-look show for the first time at its biggest annual event in a crucial pitch to more than 700 international TV buyers.
Evans, and now perhaps LeBlanc, is to front the official unveiling of the show later this month in a PR offensive that aims to secure sales of the show to maintain it as a crown jewel international franchise worth £50m annually to the BBC."

Fastest driver on the star with a reasonable car or what ever it's called and also fronted a BBC America Top Gear Race Special so he has some history with TG. Will reserve judgement until I see it.
