Murder by Decree(1979)

Bob Clark directs Christopher Plummer as Sherlock Holmes,James Mason as Dr.Watson and Frank Finlay as Inspector Lestrade in this terrific film about the great detective in pursuit of Jack the Ripper. The royal connection subplot comes from the book Jack the Ripper : The Final Solution by Stephen Knight.

Filth (2013) Based on an Irvine Welsh novel, James McAvoy plays a junkie cop trying anything to win a promotion. Barely a storyline on which are hung various dream sequences, it just doesn't work, because although billed as part comedy, its rarely funny, regular swear words doesn't equal funny and the lead character, despite hard work from McAvoy is completely unsympathetic. A strong cast (Eddie Marsan, John Sessions, Shirley Henderson,Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots) is thus wasted 4/10

A Serious Man (2009) Fairly sober for the Coen Brothers, as a 1960s Mid Western teacher, played beautifully by Michael Stuhlbarg faces a series of crisises, family and work, and embraces his Jewish religion to help. His meeting with various rabbis are fascinating and give a real insight into the Jewish faith, also there's his son's barmitzvah. 7.5/10

Henry V (1989) I think I'm getting to grips with Shakespeare, this is an enjoyable, exciting and well acted version with Kenneth Branagh directing and in the lead role. The battle, siege scenes and the set design are done with imagination, on what looks like a smallish budget. Also starring Ian Holm, Brian Blessed (fairly restrained!)Judi Dench, Richard Briers, Michael Maloney, Paul Scofield and Christian Bale 7.5/10

Batman vs Superman 5/10 - really disappointing movie, a virtually non existent plot and predictable ending. A real case of style over substance.

There's a similar film made in 67 called A Study In Terror with John Neville as Holmes & Donald Houston as Watson, worth a watch

RE: Last film you watched
I tend to watch all the summer blockbusters and i was really looking forward to Batman,Superman but there are far to many plot holes for my liking, not least as to why they are fighting in the first place and what did it gain Lex to unleash Doomsday? also how did Lex know about clarks secret identity?

Hardly controversialSmile
