Very true. Their game does match up very well to ours. Scandinavian sides are usually strong at set plays particularly corners and throw ins. Plus remember that traditionally a lot of their players have earned their living playing for clubs in England so they know our players inside out.

Scandinavian nations are probably best suited in world football to deal with and counter a British side's physical game and find holes in the back line with a speedy striker or winger. Would certainly explain England's patchy record against Sweden over the years and last night's ineffective, tactically naive performance against Iceland.

The "fobbing off" accusation was an outrageous thing to say.

I do not accept the fobbing off comment was outrageous.

Of course it was outrageous. By saying that you are accusing people of fobbing off when they are simply talking about things they care about is wrong.

You were effectively saying that someone who cares about things in the game like desire, like heart, like passion, is wrong to say those things. Of course it's not wrong. If we care about the game, then I would have thought that those things were fundamental to it.

Outrageous? Calm down dear. 'Fobbing off' is no more outrageous, some may say less outrageous, than accusing players of not caring or lacking passion. You are obviously very pasionate about the English national team. Couple that with an appreciation of tactical nous and simmer down on the pro charging around the pitch like banshees wins you games mentality and you'll have a coherent view of the game to share with all. #FobbGate

I hoped last night's unfortunate arguments can be laid to rest - but there's always someone who wants to stoke the fires again.

You clearly don't understand what I was saying. What you've said there is stupid. I have contributed long and hard on football threads - I've explained everything in this thread. If you don't get it, don't reply. That's all, I have no wish to argue this all night again.

I am keen to see how Iceland get on against France.
Iceland did get through a pretty tough qualifying group just to get to the Euros and now have reached the quarter finals.
It is some achievement.

RE: Euro 2016
I don't think the England players don't care. I do think that they lack intelligence about game management. Rooney cares passionately about England but he can't read & influence a game like a true leader should be able to. He's just the latest in a long line in that regard.

If you think about the transformation in England Rugby since last Autumn there is a step change in attitude, resilience under pressure and on field game management. Roy Hodgson looked like a rabbit in the headlights last night. He had no idea what to do and when he did make changes they defied logic other than Rashfird & he was brought on 20 minutes too late.

As an example Hoddle on TV was saying that at England corners England could move 2 Icelandic players out of the penalty box my simply sending 1 England player towards the corner taker. Why could no one one the pitch or touch line see that?

I agree I think if they were not paid for playing for England I did for a different reason (I would say that they should do it for pride) I reckon they lose some mental blocks

RE: Euro 2016
^^ I agree with that SecretAgent.
Game management was an issue at the 2014 World Cup too particularly against Uruguay.
Poor game management and a lack of any discernable gameplan or ability to execute it are the main deficiencies imo where England are concerned.
The ability to deal with match events and the state of the game.
Sound decision making is absolutely key as is the ability of the whole team to work to the same gameplan.
Last night once England conceded the equaliser so quickly the England players looked visibly shellshocked and by the time the 2nd Iceland goal went in the gradual descent into desperation mode took hold. It was as if the players and manager did not know a way out. It needed some leadership to refocus and not let panic set in.
The second half performance from England to me showed a team that had seen its purpose, belief and confidence shot to pieces. There seemed to be no method to what England were doing. I don't think it was lack of desire so much as lack of clear plan and leadership.
Iceland were the complete opposite.
Clear plan, well executed, total belief in the gameplan, a team that looked full of leaders who could adapt to whatever would be thrown at them.
These are issues that have affected England for a while now imo and none more so than last night.
