Too late.

The Remain voters hate Boris and after that article the Leave voters don't trust him.

I'm now looking forward to his next Telegraph column!

Apparently the Tories have looked at Labour playing the "Who's a big backstabbing Judas?" game and thought "that looks like fun! we should be playing that."

Now we are nearing the business end of this thing we are seeing the difference between campaigning and actual politics in Boris' words. Farage meanwhile continues to play to the media and court public attention. Who's words should we pay more attention to at this stage?

The answer is Farage.

Boris has disowned the article in The Telegraph, saying he had no intention of proceeding on that basis and that he was tired when he wrote it.

Why?! Farage still isn't going to be making government policy. (Granted Boris' say in that area would now seem to count for next to nothing also.) Farage's influence extended to aiding the call for a referendum and influencing the agenda during it. Others are now going to be in charge and, crucially, now have zero reason to listen to anything he says. Why the hell should anyone else?

So, the actual answer is now neither of them!

...Indeed, the picture is completely different today. It's a different race than what was expected; although still, of course, what we get from the EU now is almost entirely dependent on who becomes Tory leader.

So who do those that voted leave trust to have the balls and the ability to get whatever they wanted for our nation?

17 million people voted for change; far, far fewer will now have a crucial say in influencing what actually happens next. Will the Tory membership even get any clearer message on what each candidate plans to do than we did in the referendum?!

Another victory for democracy with the fate of the nation in sub paying hands! Rolleyes

From the BBC News website:

Conservative Party leadership timetable
Thursday 30 June: Nominations closed at 12pm today. We now have the declared runners and riders

Monday 4 July: Hustings for MPs

Tuesday 5 July: Voting is open for MPs from 11am to 6pm. The first ballot is then counted and verified and the result announced by the returning officer immediately.

The bottom person drops out and the others decide if they're still running.

Thursday 7 July: Second ballot takes place. Voting is open for MPs from 9am - 4pm. Result announced afterwards.

This process continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays until they are down to two candidates.

The final two are then put to the membership of the party.

9 September: New leader announced, unless of course someone drops out before that.

If the contest is between Gove and May, then Britain is out of the EU and probably the single market, because unlike Boris neither will retreat.

But could at least be good for the country, I think the remain camp is still grasping at straws the the vote will be ovcer turned, I've seen nothing of this, but both europe and the UK prepering (after a fashion) to leave.

What's needed is a stability and a proper decision, not flapping.

RE: Europe..IN or OUT??
It's fairly evident that something big happened behind the scenes in the last 24 hours.

Reading between the lines in newspaper reports it seems likely that a fall-out between Boris and Gove came to the fore and Gove (who has previously said he didn't have the exact qualities needed to make a good PM) decided to go for it to stop Boris; Boris then realised he didn't have a chance of winning any more and pulled out of the race.

Boris supporter, James Cleverly, MP for Braintree, implies here that Boris' decision came as a direct result of Gove's.

More info can be gleaned from these tweets by Paul Goodman, editor of ConservativeHome (as reported by the Guardian):

Paul Goodman @PaulGoodmanCH
Gove's decision 1) He came to believe that @BorisJohnson was prepared to backtrack on Brexit.
10:49 AM - 30 Jun 2016

Paul Goodman @PaulGoodmanCH
Gove's decision 2) It's claimed that Johnson refused to allow his Daily Telegraph column text to go through a campaign approval process.
10:51 AM - 30 Jun 2016

Paul Goodman @PaulGoodmanCH
Gove's decision 3) The Justice Secretary & supporters concluded that Johnson was unlikely to defeat May.
10:52 AM - 30 Jun 2016

The following articles have some good background material on the situation between the pair:
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...ing-street
http://www.independent.co.uk/voices/mich...10881.html

None of the candidate's are particularly appealing to me. But, if pushed, I would rather have May than the Murdoch-backed wet fish that is Gove.

As an aside, on the immigration issue, I think we will see an Australian points system in this country but that it will apply to non-EU nationals only. It will be a sprat offered to those that voted leave, Farage and his supporters, and a headline grabber for the media.
