Of course it should. Leicester's win was the greatest sporting fairytale ever and chances are it will never be repeated.

RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
Sorry folks - hannahspet, cosmonaut - I don't agree about Leicester.

The Olympics is a bigger event. Leicester have had many plaudits already this year and their players have all been more than generously rewarded for their efforts and so has the club itself. Leicester could be on the verge of really great things in the game, no doubt, but there are for me plenty of teams within the biggest sporting event of the year from GB that should have been nominated and should have won.

The hockey win not that impressive? That's a rather silly statement HP if you don't mind me saying so. I'm going to say it even if you do mind. They were massive underdogs - the Netherlands were dominant and were defending champions. GB had never won that ever. Sorry dude - but "not very impressive" is a very silly statement. Each to our own opinion of course, but just saying I think you're mistaken.

And cosmonaut - how do you know Leicester's win will "never be repeated" - nobody knows that! I'll expect your apology if and when a similar thing happens again. Wink

RE: BBC Sports Personality of the Year
I think it depends how the size of the achievement is defined.
Different people will look at it through different eyes. Is it defined by the magnitude of the event or through the difficulty in winning it or a bit of both?
Then is it about more than just winning one thing or more than one?
Or is it about character in the face of adversity in achieving a sporting triumph? Or maybe defying the odds to claim victory?
Should consistency win the day over the 12 month period over anything else?
Or is it a combination of the above amongst other things too?
So many questions to which different folk will have different answers.
The three main candidates for team of the year to my mind were Leicester City, GB Womens Hockey and the England Mens Rugby Union team.
Imo they all had compelling arguments in their favour. However the decision has been made to give it to Leicester City which I can understand.
Equally I could have understood either of the other two I mentioned winning it.
Congrats to Leicester City though.

yes, congratulations of course. That's the decision but I'm just saying I don't agree. I'm not rubbishing their efforts, far from it, but I feel I've made a fair and valid argument to back up my opinion of why it should have been someone or something else winning that award.

That's all I'll say for now, I think I've made my opinions clear.

Sorry but i said that hockey win was not that impresive and i stand by that

England of which most of the Team were picked from were already rated 7th in the world ( Got info from hockey governing body website ) and they were always there and there about in olympic tournaments

would we be going so nuts if the mens team had won gold and not the women proberly not. also for the fact a couple of players are in a same sex relationship good for the optics and keeps the feminazi's happy

Not denying they did good out there just the fact it wasnt shock they could win

how many times have the Netherlands ladies beaten our hockey girls over the last few years? I have to say our girls winning that gold medal is an achievement that matches the men's gold in Seoul 1988
Like Regenerated said the Dutch team were the defending champions and if I remember rightly they played like champions throughout but whatever our game plan was that night it certainly took the Dutch by surprise and we matched them then overturned them for our first ever women's hockey gold

To play devils advocate however Wink.
Leicester had to overcome the entire Premier League to win it over a longer time span and larger number of matches than the GB Hockey team.
It could be argued they achieved it with less football resource in terms of relative supposed quality or indeed quantity against substantially richer clubs with a greater capacity to attract the best players. To sustain a league winning campaign for that period of time and matches against so many arguably stronger teams is a pretty huge achievement.

England women beat Netherlands at the last European Championships in the final to become winners. Also beat them in the 2013 Europeans in the semi-finals before going on to lose to Germany.

At the end of the day everyone's gonna have different opinion on who they think should or shouldn't have one. There all worthy winners in there field at the end of day.

I think there should be a second vote. It's quite obvious the public had no idea what they were voting for Tongue
