Not a massive book(360 pages) on cricketer W G Grace but as well as his cricket career it covers his family life,his financial dealings(generally earning more through expenses than professional cricketers earnt). It also takes a look at the many Victorian entrepreneurs,some organising cricket tours,probably more failures and bankruptcies than successes!

Wild Blue by Stephen E.Ambrose

Focusing on 741st Bomb Squadron, in particular the crew that made up the Dakota Queen,a B-24 Bomber that managed to successfully complete all its missions and not end up as one of the other 50% that suffered casualties during the conflict

As much as I like Spielberg's film,for me the novel's many subplots and more interesting characters make it superior.After a slow and quite techinal orientated start,it really pics up once things get to the island.Less spectacular than the film but more thought provoking.

The Wild Shore by Kim Stanley Robinson

A group of survivors rebuild new communities after a Nuclear war but face trouble with the emergence of a new political landscape. Fantastically descriptive with engaging characters that grab your attention from the get go.
