RE: worst ever England football eleven
Whilst I agree with a lot of what u guys are saying I think ur being a tad harsh on some players who played only once or twice for us thus not ever getting a full crack at being really shite for England. If you cant excuse Scott Carson an untimely error in just 2 or 3 appearances but can excuse someone like John Barnes who pretty much sucked for England after 1986 but carried on playing for another 7 or 8 years then there is something wrong! They are truly the worst in my opinion, those who played more than a handfull times and never had a good game.

But it is because they sucked so much they were not given another chance to suck. Did you ever hear what brian clough once said to Larry Lloyd after he had a nightmare against Wales?' Larry who was the fella who had two england caps at once?' Larry Lloyd had no answer 'you Larry your fourth and your last'
...but how do we know that for example Gary Bailey (GK mentioned elsewhere in the thread) who played 2 times for England, conceeding just once wouldnt have gone on to keep countless clean sheets if he was given more than 2 caps to prove it??? Thats why i would look at someone like David James and say "Fuck me, hes played 48 times for England and each one of those times ive spent the entire game just waiting for him to fuck up at some point. He's actually proven he was shit in an England shirt!!!!
...and No i never heard what Cloughie said but it is quite funny

The thread is a mixture between those that were terrible for england terrible in general and In carlton Palmers case both. Jeff Thomas had a few caps but any one that follows football would say he was one of the all time worst players to have played for england
now you see the problem with Geoff Thomas was...he didnt deserve to get in the side full stop. ( how the fuck he got 8 caps i'll never know!)At that time i remember as a villa fan being dismayed that if that fuckwit could play central midfield then why werent they considering people like Gordan Cowans or Kevin Richardson to name just the Villa players that deserved it let alone the rest of the midfielders in the league !!!

Totally agree with ur assesment of Graham Taylor, he should never have taken the job when he did as i think if he'd have stayed it could have been the start of something special. As it happened we got Dr Josef Venglos who decided that English youth was not the way forward but instaead a load of Swedes, Norweigans, and Germans and selling the likes of Alan Mcinally, Gordon Cowans and David Platt to foreign clubs...sorry bit off topic but Graham Taylor would definatley manage Englands all time worst XI ...."Would he not like that".....
