24: Redemption (2008)

The feature length film based on the long running TV thriller series. Set almost 4 years after the events of season 6, Jack Bauer is now working in Africa as a missionary. He and friend Carl Benton, an ex-special forces operative, are running a school for orphans in the war-torn nation of Sangala. Jack is forced to take up arms again when militia rebels intent on recruiting children for the conflict threaten the safety of the school. Although the film lacks the sense of urgency traditionally associated with the TV series, it was good to see a more human side to Bauer's character. The lead actors all give good performances and the film gives a useful introduction to new characters appearing in future seasons. FOX produced this to fill the gap in series caused by the 2007-2008 writer's guild strike and I found it an enjoyable interval act. Kiefer Sutherland, Robert Carlyle, Cherry Jones, Jon Voight, Powers Boothe and Gil Bellows star. 3.5 / 5

The Mummy (2017)

The first film in the "Dark Universe" which is a lot better than the negative reviews its had suggests.

It's a entertaining, action packed & very scary film with good performances from the cast, especially Tom Cruise & Sofia Boutella who is a very good & very scary villain as Princess Ahmanet/The Mummy

Special Effects & action sequences are very good and there is an Easter egg for the Brendan Fraser The Mummy films and some Easter Eggs for the Dark Universe

7/10

Fighter Attack(1953) Sterling Hayden plays an ex US pilot who returns to the Italian village where after crashing near during World War Two, he fought alongside Italian partisans . A low budget (it shows especially in the plane fighting scenes) film, which falls down all the way through, too many flat dramatic scenes, a dull romance between Hayden and Joy Page(supposedly playing an Italian farming girl, completely over made up!). Hayden does his best, and the ground warfare is fairly exciting, but its a missed opportunity to film an interesting part of the war. Also starring J Carrol Naish,Kenneth Tobey,David Leonard,Harry Lauter and Jeffrey Stone. 5/10

Candlestick(2014) The host of a social gathering has devious plans but not everything goes to plan... A fairly low budget drama/thriller, with the look of a filmed play, and although it reveals cleverness later on, it feels like its an eternity to get there, despite the short running time of an hour twenty minutes. Starring Andrew Fitch,Isla Ure,Nigel Thomas,Tom Knight & Dan March. 5.5/10

The Mummy

All I say it's not a great start to the Dark Universe, it's not a bad film nor is it a great one either. I'll give it credit for trying to different to the previous incarnations of this film and the special effects are good and in places it is very funny.
The problems with the film is there's nothing new and certain things are really obvious, Tom Cruise is a good actor and always puts in 110% into roles but here it feels like his been micast in the movie. The supportive cast either don't get much to do or Screen time which is a shame. Parts of the film feel like your watching a resident evil film you'll see what I mean if you decide to watch it. The ending was a bit anti climatic and of course a opening ending, where I watched it a lot of people didn't like it. It just felt more like a action film and it wasn't that scary because it's been done before with the Brendan Fraser version which personally is the better film as it never took it self so serious and was far more enjoyable or if you go back to the 1830's original which was far more scarier and creepy.
There's Easter Eggs referencing the Brendan Fraser Mummy film and a another film which is technically part of the Dark Universe films before this one, you'll spot it in the film if you have a good eye. If you can switch off your brain for a couple hours then it's a decent film no where on the level of Ghostbusters 2016 or ID4 2 bad.

6.5/10.

Dragon(2001)

Another Stuart Gordon effort that once again was inspired by the writing of Lovecraft. This special effects heavy story follows a cult of fish-people that worship a mysterious marine figure called Dragon.Totally surreal and packed with horrific, splatter movie moments but always utterly absorbing. It stands tall as one of Gordon's best films.

8/10
