Boris Johnson in 2008 nailed his trousers to the mast, sorry his colours, about the rise of electric cars, and the government have now announced that by 2040, all new petrol, diesel and hybrid cars will be banned.

I think the problem is as with any deadline that's ages away, trying to worry people now is as doomed as the planet. "ooh you've got 23 years to solve this" "no rush then"

This is designed to keep the EU off our backs over emissions levels until we get out. It will be quietly dropped in a few years.

I have no problem with electric cars in principle. As soon as someone invents one that can do 400+ miles & recharge in 5 minutes I'll buy one if the price is right.

They've backtracked already. Hybrids won't be included in the ban.

Dave repeated the TG ep with the Honda Clarity today. Presumably if there were Hydrogen filling stations in California, then there must be some car owners using them.

Conceivably, the notion of a shut-off date like 2040 might prompt car makers to adjust to finding new and better solutions.
