Surely Eddie Howe has earned a shout at the Everton job given what he has done with not much funds and Everton have shown that they have money to spend

I think it is important for the future of British football and English football in particular that Howe is given the chance to progress but his style of play is something that the English management needs more of. The style of play of managers like Allardyce, Hodgson and Pulis will only take you so far, teams do not win leagues and they do not win European trophies playing like these two mangers teams play. These days the art of defending is dying and it is all about attack, two of the best attacking teams in Europe are in the final of the Champions League and the best defensive team whilst in the final of the Europa league got knocked out at the group stage

British teams under British managers just don't press, they still like to opt for the 4-4-2 formation, defend well and lob it up park to big number 9 when did you last see City, Barca, Madrid, Liverpool or Bayern play like that?

I think it is important for the English game and for the national team that they embrace the change that is happening in football, look at players like Sterling, Vardy, Delle Alli & Rashford and ask yourself are you ever going to get the best out of them with any English manager let alone Southgate and what would that four look like of Jurgen Klopp was England manager

Looking beyond the senior players what is it like at youth level? Is anyone with some knowledge of the English youth system able to tell me? Are English kids at Under 17s and below playing pressing football in a 4-3-3, 4-2-3-1, 3-5-2, 3-4-3 formations because these are the formations that are winning trophies or are they learning 4-4-2

Look at that England squad that was down to 2-0 Spain in the final and scored 5 in a row to win 5-2, it would be a travesty if those players ended up playing under Allardyce, Pulis, Hodgson, Warnock et al

England could go very far in Russia, they could win the tournament but they wont because English managers don't know how to play their players, they just put square pegs into round holes and hope that it will work because those square begs are capable of good quality
