3.18 Another good one, packed with incident. The spaceship send-off was a good way to open, and Brainy's obvious Macguffin of future dirt was justified more quickly and simply than I would have expected.

Supergirl and Jonn's visit to Sam's childhood home meant that the premise of a triplified Reign could be worked out very effectively, her sharp Pestilence fingers reminding me of Superman IV (which I appreciate I am in a tiny majority of liking as a film).


Ruby being kept in a hidden mansion was a good reveal, even if Reign then found her all too quickly. She seems a whole lot more impressive a baddie than either the ones in the first 2 series, and also, perhaps coincidentally, the most similar to a dominatrix, though that might just be a stretch of the imagination.


Her snaring was a surprise (although since she's been made super-super-powered, it does beg questions of how they can ever stop her etc), but the finale with Lena revealing her distrust of Supergirl was a nice twist on her "I shall stop people with niceness" act with everyone else.

3.19 This was more of a "holding pattern" story, with the Fanatics being either generically boring or just not that well explained. It also really doesn't do the Worldkillers stuff any favours if you can magically cook one up if you have the right stuff. Keeping Reign boxed up for a week just emphasises how things should move normally.

The subplot with Guardian's identity and stuff about racism is well-meaning, but it's always second gear stuff. Lena is miffed because she doesn't know Supergirl's secret identity, but doesn't ask herself why she would need one, just as nobody ever asked why Reign wore a mask.

It was good that Ruby finally chilled out a bit because a grown-up actually told her cool stuff. Alex never at any stage asks herself (or her books) what good it is to distract someone from the knowledge that their mum is an alien psychopath. "Hey, let's play some cool arcade games and have an ice cream!" That's never gonna work.

I'm beginning to lose faith in Psi getting another appearance. Feckless damn show
