Wink Everything 80's
They say that if you remember the 60's you weren't really there but we definitely some of us remember the 1980s more because we lived through dark times and came out of it better people. So lets see how this thread goes. Everything about the 80's goes here, the music, the dreadful fashions, hairstyles(men and women), television, films, magazines, books, travel, sport etc. Anything you remember add here, tell YOUR stories, share YOUR memories OR tell others that weren't around just how great it was OR how bad it was for you. Thanks for reading MAN Big Grin Cool

Well Green Machine,
Back in the 1980's the Wolves were in a desperate state, having been taken to the cleaners by the Bhatti Brothers.

RE: Everything 80's
Liverpool went from strength to strength in the 80's whilst in 1985 I was lucky to get to see, at the old Wembley, the final of the then Milk Cup(League) between Norwich and Sunderland-thanks to the BBC Grandstand a friend and me were in the Norwegian press box to see it.

Back then you were either a Mod, Rocker, Skinhead, Punk or later a New Romantic, failing that you were just YOU not following the herd. Up until then. Only pirates and women wore earrings-how times changed. Smile

RE: Everything 80's
Some of the best Metal/Grunge bands formed in the 80's.
Slayer: 1981
Anthrax: 1981
Metallica: 1981
Megadeth: 1983
Pantera: 1981
Nirvana: 1987
Soundgarden: 1984
Don't quote me but they were all formed in the 80's and there's more you could add to that list. Great decade.

That's me, always being me own man, probably because nobody ever wanted me in their team. Sad.

RE: Everything 80's
Bands of the 1980's that I liked
The Jam, The Police, The Specials, Duran Duran, Spandau Ballet, UB40 to name but a few thousand. Interesting to note how many of these still continue in some form or other to this day and 80's music is big business with people around at that time. At that time there were a lot of genres like Two Tone, SKA and New Romantics plus post-Punk.

If you could afford it the fashions for boys back then were things like Harrington jackets, FILA t-shirts, ADIDAS shoes(the three stripes) and various haircuts from skinhead to quiff. Punks favoured bondage trousers, these were usually studded with safety pins and zips everywhere, and bovver boots(Doctor Martens) the New Romantic favoured the tailored jacket, shirt & tie(colourful) and trousers, without socks and the sleeves on the jackets rolled up(made more popular by Don Johnson in Miami Vice) whereas later tracksuit tops became a craze. Early Mods had long green jackets and the Vesper motorcycle(covered in mirrors) but later reverted to the afore-mentioned Harrington jacket and a Ben Sherman shirt or a t-shirt with an RAF roundel(blue, white and red) motif-made popular by Paul Weller of the Jam.

Those first five words basically sum it all up for me GreenMachine.
Working six days a week to save for a house, (wasn't even married yet), so fashion was last thing on my mind.
Besides I have always had this cynical abhorrence, even as a teenager, to paying good hard-earned money, (either mine or me dad's), to some company to promote their name.

Ordinary jumper and jeans for me mate, always.
Boring bastard ain't I.
No need to vote on it, I know I am.

Duran Duran - New Romantics, I'm thinking ... White Crepe suit with the sleeves rolled half way up your forearm, White canvas shoes and no socks. Big wavy hair do and mustache (Guys)

Big wavy hair do and outfits with big padded shoulders (Girls)

Apply yourself and surprise yourself....You only fail if you never try.
