RE: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
It would appear that there isn't a campaign mode, no.
Welcome to the online-only era.
It doesn't bother me because I hardly play the campaigns anyway, I'm more interested in playing hardcore domination online.
The campaign mode is for Timmy no thumbs laugh

On PS, simply create your own chat party and then you don't have to listen to anybody. I'm not sure what options you have on other platforms, but I'm assuming it will be something similar.

RE: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
I've bought every Call of Duty game in the past bar this game for a few reasons, the omission of the single-player mode & I've not been over enthusiastic with the futuristic style aspects of COD games.I've always preferred the grittiness & the realism of WW's fighting your way through trenches, derelict buildings & battlefields with pretty bog standard weapons (& the old sticky bomb to take out a tank) rather than bouncing around in a jetpack/exoskeleton but thats just me.I found last years COD WW2 a massive improvement on previous games (that went through a bit of a lull).

I'm a player that likes the best of both worlds both single player (& a story mode) & multiplayer that works very well in games like GTA 5 & Destiny 2.In fact in Destiny 2 you can play elements in story mode where friends or other online players can join in & help as well as any weaponry & armour that you gain in story modes can be used in online battles in other modes. The omission of a single player campaign (whether its tacked on or not) in this years game for me is like buying a quarter-pounder with cheese (from McD's) but when you open it,its a cheeseburger but McD's explain that they've reduced the ingredients but still want to charge the same (in other words paying more for less content).I've always used the single player/story mode as a way of cutting my teeth on the game before competing online.Plus historically online only games tend to have shorter shelf-lives ie Evolve,Killing Floor 2, Titanfall,The Division,Payday 2 etc.

Tbh it's the midst of a busy period for game releases what with Red Dead 2,Hitman 2, Battlefield V,Darksiders 3,Just Cause 4 (all have single & multiplayer options) & so COD BO4 isn't really on my sights unless I play a mates copy or it goes down in the sales. And I have that horrible feeling that Fallout 76 (a multiplayer only game) is going to bomb big time.

Yes joking aside I do agree. It definitely should include a campaign mode especially considering the price has remained consistent. They obviously feel that their largest pool of customers stem from the multiplayer side of things. But I suppose from any buyers perspective you are definitely being robbed of half a game whether you play it or not. It's nice to have the option. No doubt it was also cheaper for them to produce and perhaps they feel this will easily outweigh any potential loss of sales? The trouble is though this is COD, people will still buy it regardless Blush laugh

Giving it a miss this year and probably with Battlefield too.

RE: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
The game has received very solid reviews so far averaging 87/100 on Metacritic (which averages out the reviews across various sites) & looking at gameplay footage on Youtube as with every COD game it is graphically impressive & gunplay looks good.
But the cynic in me reckons the omission of single player/campaign mode is a mere diverting game budgets to other aspects of the game as they do tend to hire big name actors filling character roles in the campaign mode. The main problem with games like this that require a permanent online connection just to play it (with no offline modes) are at the mercy of the dedicated servers,PS+ subscription,a consistant amount players wanting to play the game & a decent internet connection. When the games makers drop their output on the servers the game is as good as dead (hence the short shelf life) which'll probably be when Black Ops 5 comes out.

Makers of Black Ops 4 have clearly looked at the success of Fornite & PUGB & wanted a slice of the pie by creating the Rumble/Battle Royale mode but the main problem with that is that Fornite is a free game to play (unless you like shelling out fortunes for new skins etc).Tbh I've never really been a fan of Fortnite (apart from when certain gimmick modes that have been temporarily added like Thanos mode) as for me free game aside it plays like a pretty mediocre shooter so I'd fully expect Black Ops 4 to be a far superior shooter than Fornite on any Rumble/Battle Royale mode absolutely. One advantage Fortnite seems to have now over other shooters of its ilk is the cross-format gameplay which allows PS4,Xone,PC & Switch players can play together.

RE: Call of Duty: Black Ops 4
After a huge 60Gb (ish) update I finally got to sample Treyarch's newest offering.
Ok so despite hardcore being my preferred mode I actually started out on the normal core mode so I can use the mini-map to help learn some of the new maps. Also I used Team Deathmatch so I haven't got anything else to worry about other than learning the new maps, and killing people of course. And whilst we're talking about maps there are some of the old Black Ops 2 maps included and Slums is one of them. So that's handy because I already knew the map.
Knowing each and every map like the back of my hand is crucial to the way that I like to play these games. I'm one of those sneaky annoying people that likes to pick people off from the edges of the map. It's not very often you'll find me barrelling into choke points spamming the holy shitballs out of whatever weapon. It's just not my style and I'm crap at it too.
So, playing the normal core mode and the first thing I've noticed is the 150% health bar. I've since read that the health increase actually translates into approx a 20% increase and not 50%, despite reading 150% as opposed to BO3's 100%. I'm not sure why they've done this, perhaps it's to compliment the self-healing you now have to do which I'm not sure about. It could prove to be better in the long run for various reasons. It's just annoying at the minute having to keep stabbing myself with a health syringe every time I take a bullet. It's especially annoying when you forget to do it in the heat of battle because you are definitely a sitting duck in that situation. So I suppose that's the point and it all just depends if you like/prefer this new way of doing things? But the biggest and most obvious element I've found with their new health system is the length of time it is now taking to drop people (TTK). It seems to take forever, and if you meet two people more often than not you will empty your entire magazine on the first guy and will die reloading on the second. So again, it's a case of having to get used to it and at this present moment I'm not really viewing it as a positive change but I fear that's only because I am missing numerous headshots. So until I find my feet I'm going to struggle because it would seem headshots are paramount in this game. But there could also be some lag issues involved here exaggerating the issue, even with a longer time to kill it still seems higher than 20% at times. It wouldn't surprise me with Treyarch to be honest because one thing I will say about them is I don't really like their matchmaking filters.
In my own personal experience Sledgehammer seem to get this better tuned. Probably the polar opposite of what a lot of these top YouTubers will tell you, but that's just how I've found things. Put it this way, I certainly didn't expect the lowest ranked player in my very first game to be level 30!! I got my arse tanned from all directions, inside and out. Also most of the matches I played were very one-sided, another common feature of lag issues. One team couldn't miss whilst the other were getting absolutely annihilated. Hopefully they will sort this out with a few updates in the next few coming days or weeks.
The graphics as a whole look pretty good albeit arguably a little cartoony at times, and some of the create-a-class graphics look a bit naff, reminiscent to that pile of shit
AKA - Infinite Warfare.
They have also changed the scoreboard now which just makes it harder to read and I'm struggling to see the point. I'm not a fan of changing things just so you can call it new, it needs to be an improvement.
So like I said, it's early days and I'll keep plugging away and maybe write another review in a week or two. At the moment I'm very undecided and I need to give it some time for a fair shake.
