I've been spending the day reading through all the tributes that fellow players, fellow sports people, journalists and politicians have been making about Andy's career, as a champion on the court as well as a fighter for people's rights off it.
He's a genuinely nice guy and the sport will miss him. I hope he can get to Wimbledon and finish with the send-off that he richly deserves. I'm sure whenever the end comes, there won't be a dry eye in the place.
Thanks for everything Andy.
And it's not an easy game for him in the 1st round in Melbourne I think either.
I do think if it is possible that if he loses in Melbourne, he might possibly think about resting up until Wmbledon, then give it one last shot there then. I would think (& hope) that possibly that thought hasn't been entertained in his mind once, ever since he made the announcement, and it would be a shame IF he finished before Wimbleon and not give his British fans the chance to give him a proper send off.
At the same time I do think he should become the next Davis cup captain, as i think he found the Davis Cup was one competition he looked forward to as much as Wimbledon.

RE: Andy Murray
^^ I don't agree with you babelover48 that the thought of not playing hasn't been entertained. I would assume the complete opposite - that he would choose which tournaments he's playing very carefully between now and Wimbledon.
It makes sense to play the Australian Open, he's already made that commitment, even if he loses in the first round, which given his opponent is 22nd seed Roberto Bautista Agut, is a very realistic possibility. Beyond that though, if I were him I'd miss the clay season altogether and concentrate on playing some exhibition matches and warm up tournaments on grass. Maybe even enter a few challenger level tournaments in the lead up to Wimbledon. I would think that gives him the very best chance of being able to get to the send-off he deserves at Wimbledon.
It clearly means a lot to him to want to finish at Wimbledon and he has earned, well more than earned, that right to finish on his own terms. So sad, this. It really has made me feel really sad for the guy. I hope he gets to finish when and where he'd like to, but as you said there are no guarantees.

RE: Andy Murray
Alas........alas.
Despite one hell of a brave fightback and the crowd urging Murray on all the way it wasn't to be.
Bautista Agut wins 6-4 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-7 (4-7) 6-2.
Oh Andy .
I feel for him .
I really hope this isn't the end .
