Royal Rumble 2019 - (SPOILERS)
Asuka vs Becky Lynch
For me, easily the best match of the night. Enough back and forth swings to maintain interest, the crowd seemed very much in to it - so it was probably a good thing it was first on the televised Sky Box Office broadcast. I was frustrated with Asuka retaining but Becky later entering the women's rumble and winning was an excellent move from WWE. Love her - she's so spunky...
The Bar vs Shane & Miz
Absolutely agree with goatman - it was ok, it was fun, but it was also let down by the outcome being way too obvious.
Ronda Rousey vs Sasha Banks
I thought Sasha carried it throughout and Ronda's performance was terrible. I counted an awful lot of botched moves, from both ladies, but on a hopelessly worse scale from Ronda. Sasha was good in parts but the dangerously botched moves from both were very frustrating, almost upsetting.
Women's Rumble
For me more exciting than the men's. Great ending from Becky. Generated plenty of heat and excitement from the crowd, far more so than the men's. Some silly moments, sure (Alicia Fox and Maria
) but I could tolerate those because there were plenty of other good moments where new stars got a chance to shine, whereas in the men's rumble, those silly moments just came across as deeply annoying and added nothing to the progression of the newbies. Great to see the women's match getting for me, a great reaction.
Daniel Bryan vs AJ Styles
As goatman said, a good match that deserved a better involvement from the crowd. Eric Rowan interrupting was a crap ending. I would assume the crowd were tired after the good women's rumble match but nevertheless, they were very slow to get involved.
Brock Lesnar vs Finn Balor
An entirely predictable outcome but was good to see Balor proving himself as a main-eventer and was equally good to see Lesnar getting fucked up. I hate Brock, just wish WWE would fuck him off altogether. I was hoping Balor would have busted him open externally as well as (kayfabe ??) internally, but in the end I suppose I knew that Lesnar would have squeezed out a victory. Damn him.
Men's Rumble
A tired, stale and predictable outcome containing the usual frustrating silly moments of has-beens and no-hopers attempting to bury some decent new stars. I was pleased Seth won, but it didn't feel epic enough. Pleased he has chosen to face Lesnar at WM, but I need WWE to plan their next moves very carefully going forward. Near the end of the match we had a woman, Nia Jax, getting beaten up by three guys. That was a terrible segment and not the message that WWE should be sending. Another woeful lack of heat from the crowd too. Too many times that happened throughout the contest and it must be disheartening for the promising NXT stars that it was supposed to be showcasing.
So another mixed bag but the women's division is getting great coverage and has more interesting development.
