UK TV license
I’ve been watching clips of people being harassed by agents trying to collect tv licence fees. Why on Earth are they pursing this archaic model in the current technological age. Most under 50s use the internet free netflix tech news android 9 for their media, and pensioners are exempt from the licence fee. Is it really worth harassing the entire population over something that could be designed intelligently? If they do insist on keeping the fee, upon paying send the account holder a pin to login to iplayer with rather than asking each time if you have a licence. Better still make iplayer subscription based. Money Would still only be taken from users and the rest of the population would stop being harassed. For the dying breed who use their tv for tv take a nominal sum out of general taxation.

It's time that either the BBC were allowed to have adverts or charged for their output.

But I can't understand your harassment comment. Either you have a licence or you stand a chance of prosecution.
First time offenders have the option of buying a licence before it comes to court.

How could the BBC be regarded as independent though, if they were reliant on the government for their funding?

RE: UK TV license
The BBC will NEVER have adverts and to paraphrase Arnold Rimmer of Red Dwarf "and on that day Lister, Satan will be skating to work!" I am sure they are working on several ideas, one of which is this Britbox thing as a joint effort with ITV as a counter to Netflix. As I understand it even if you are visited by tv detector van people they have NO right to enter your house without your permission, so unless they have a warrant or the police with them there is nothing they can legally do. However, as their old advert used to say "Get a licence...not a criminal record!"

RE: UK TV license
^Don't the BBC run adverts on BBC4?

And programme sponsorship is another way that they could reduce licence fees

I don't think so, but you could argue that they do have their own adverts or trailers for their own series coming up. I can't see the BBC wanting to use advertising let alone sponsorship-they take a dim view of product placing too.

When contestants on Bargain Hunt lose money, instead of standing around laughing at how crap they are, they should be made to repay it. If the winners get to keep their profit, it should work the other way too.
