BBC4 have a load of Irish music stuff tonight, some of which aren't repeats from previous years

That 2nd series of Brian Johnson's Life on the Road was entertaining stuff after all, with Brian trying to write songs with Dolly and Joe Walsh, and getting guys like the notoriously reticent Knopfler to barely shut up.

BBC4 had a good prog with Billy Bragg relating the story of "Rock Island Line", tying together Leadbelly and the skiffle boom.

There was a good one on hip-hop's poetic creativity which covered most areas it seemed, from Big Daddy Kane and Rakim, through Nas, to J Cole and Anderson.Paak. Decent stuff. It was called "Word is Bond".

ToTP reaches 1988 tomorrow night (although last week's NY one must have been close to it).

I noticed late in 1987 that there were a few rock presences, like Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Whitesnake and Kiss. So it was popular enough then to get over, but besides the flowering of grunge, there hasn't really been anything like it since.
