Did he say, " So long as he wasn't too cooked" or have I misheard. Rolleyes

No you didn't mishear!!

Just an incredible day!! Fantastic final, and what a finish. Unfortunate for NZ to go down in this way - in particular, that ricochet that cost them in a big way. No fault laid at anyone's door, but leaves a bitter taste. Maybe the rule should be dead ball after such contact with the bat??

Congrats England....hopefully going forward this achievement will be seen for what it is ie winning the highest honour in the sport (despite flawed format), and not relegated later in the season should England win the a.as...as...nope just can't bring myself to refer to it.

Since there was such a gross over reaction to '05. Ironic now, that such a celebration would be totally justified. Leave out the honours though - that would still be an insult!!

I must admit. I feel some sympathy for New Zealand. The game was not clearly won or lost. It was tied both in normal play and in the super over as far as runs scored was concerned.
My feeling is perhaps a second super over should have been an option.
The countback system to use boundaries hit as opposed to wickets lost is prioritising one part of the game over another and thereby artificially determining a tied game.
All this being said Eoin Morgan, his players, Trevor Bayliss and Andrew Strauss deserve great credit.
It has been a brilliant transformation from the debacle of four years ago.
I am a very happy England fan tonight.
Every credit to New Zealand though.
They were immense and somewhat unfortunate.

Saw the last few overs, thought England had stuffed it, crazy that they got to the super over and to win by such a fine margin. Commiserations to NZ, well done England.

It turns out that the 6 runs awarded for the deflected overthrow on the 4th ball of the last over, should have only been 5 runs.

But New Zealand aren't getting the trophy back.Cool

Where did you hear that Charlemagne?? If confirmed, it does mean England did not win at all!! Can't just be overlooked if true!!

It makes sense though, as the second run was not complete at the time of contact. Share it then!! surely the most fair outcome??

As a slight aside, I hope the ICC look again at the format and the number of teams for World Cups going forward....and I certainly would be very angry were they to adopt B. Willis suggestion that in future the tournament should be reduced further by one more team being taken out Won't be happy it seems until two are left, and they call it the 'Ashes'. His only reasoning was - yet again - the competition was too long!! For all the inadequacies of this tournament in '19, length wasn't one of them.

Apparently the fact that teams were beaten multiple times and not eliminated until the very final stages of the group, or the fact that both finalists came into that last match at Lords with multiple defeats doesn't bother him!

Last point!! Shame on BBC bandwagon today ( and for days to come no doubt ) want's nothing to do with cricket (don't give me the 100 crap) but all over this now like a cheap suit. Remember funding comes from without England also

We must - as true fans- lobby the ICC now and up until the next staging, and those with influence, to revert back to 4X4 groups!!

^ Former Australian umpire Simon Taufel was asked about the rule and he said that the umpires had got in wrong.

Then they really can't let it go!! It isn't good enough for those within the England camp or media to say tough on NZ, but there it is!! Reverse the team on the receiving end of this, and we hear it loud and clear about the injustice....Giles etc damn well know it!! Can you imagine the reaction on Sky Football News??
