Welcome to a new football season and with it, a brand new prediction thread for the Premier League. I agree that it is an important competition thread on the forums and as I promised, as long as things remained healthy in my life during the summer, I will return to take over the running of it. They have, reasonably enough, so here it is. Thank you to all previous organizers of the competition and thank you to all that have taken part in it over the years.
So let's go over a few rules first. I see no reason to change the format of the competition so we'll continue with the basic premise of last season.
1. One point for a correct result and three points for a correct score.
2. Joker: You can play your joker for
one match only in each gameweek and if a correct score, you will score double points of six. The joker only counts double points if it's a correct score. Mark whichever match you are allocating as a joker in whichever way you see fit, but please make it clear which match it is.
3. Most gameweeks during the season should have one set of matches in them. However, as the season progresses it may be necessary to put two gameweeks in one post. This usually happens to save time between weekend and midweek matches or to cover busier holiday periods such as Christmas. I will always post no more than two gameweeks in a fixture post.
4. I will post the fixtures before each gameweek and will need your scores submitted
before the first kick-off of that gameweek. Any scores posted after the first kick-off will unfortunately be discounted. I don't want to have to do this, so please be careful when posting your scores. All predictions must be posted publicly in this thread. Any posted anywhere else will be discounted. If you are unable to post them in the thread due to holidays or other absences, submit them to me via PM in good time before the first kick-off and I will ensure to post them on your behalf. If doing this, again please be clear and careful when making your list.
5. Each fixture list I post will be easily cut and pasteable to save you time. You are free to use this method or post them in your own style, but all I ask is that you post them in the same order as I have made the list.
6. All fixture lists will be taken only from the official Premier League website.
7. I will post results and updated tables after the conclusion of all the matches in the list.
8. Tiebreakers: In the unlikely event of a tied finish at the top of the table at the end of the season, I will ask for predictions of three matches to decide the winner. The tiebreakers I'm using this season will be the FA Cup Final, the EFL Championship Play-Off final and the UEFA Champions League final.
9. I believe there is an existing chat and discussion thread which you can use to discuss the game and/or the season. Remember though that all prediction lists must be submitted in this thread and
not in the discussion thread. Perhaps the mods would be kind enough to amend the title of that thread for this season?
I think that's all the avenues covered in terms of rules. Please forgive me for posting this but I'm trying hard, as snookered did last season, to avoid both mistakes and disqualifications. There has to be some structure to it or things could get messy!
So without further ado, I declare season 2019/2020 open. The first gameweek's fixtures are below. You will see that Liverpool v Norwich is the first match beginning on Friday 9th August at 8pm UK time. I will need the whole of your predictions by this time. Any lists submitted after 8pm on Friday will be discounted entirely.
