Europe, Referendum & Brexit (formerly Europe..IN or OUT??)

Well the Supreme Court ruled that it was unlawful, I am not a legal expert so if anyone here who has a better understanding of how the law works (of which I am sure there are many) can tell me what the difference between an unlawful act and an act that is illegal or deemed criminal please enlighten me.

It's not the Supreme Court's job to open a criminal investigation & don't even know if they can make recommendations to law officials as to whether any criminal investigations should be undertaken, that may well be an overreach. What is quite startling/concerning about this whole episode was that it has only came about because Gina Miller, Sir John Major, Joanna Cherry & Jo Maugham QC brought this action to court. Our democracy is designed either deliberately or not that the onus is on private citizens to hold the government to account when it acts unlawfully.

Thanks to Chris Grayling & his cuts on legal aid for judicial review, that process is a lot less likely to happen as it means that only the wealthy, a business woman, a former Prime Minister, a member of parliament and a lawyer, have the means to do it

Alot of people were calling Boris's proroguing of Parliament a coup. Moggy didn't seem bothered by that

Unlawful acts are not always criminal acts. If something's unlawful it means that it has no legal effect and can be set aside by the courts. It might also be a crime, but only if there is a specific criminal law that makes it a crime.

Johnson's prorogation was held to be unlawful, which means that Parliament was never prorogued at all. His attempted prorogation was invalid. There is no law that says such an invalid prorogation also constitutes a criminal act.

I have rarely seen a more bad tempered response from a government minister, as that the Attorney General displayed this morning! I would have expected someone in his position to have the capacity to address the chamber without having a temper tantrum! To say that Parliament was broken and should effectively fall, flies in the face of what it is there to do.

I trust if the Attorney General has no faith in our place of democracy, he will not seek to stand at any forthcoming election, much less accept such a high office, and all the trappings of power (including a considerable salary - tax payer funded) that he has 'enjoyed' up until now!

Is BJ seriously turning to the European Court to assist him out of this mess he created for himself?? THE EUROPEAN COURT?? Better do it while he still can - once we leave the EU, no redress then?? Seriously, if this was a movie script, it would be rejected on the grounds of it's implausibility!

You think you have seen it all. Two female Labour MPs ask Johnson to stop using rhetoric like "surrender bill", "humiliation bill" & "capitulation bill" as it invokes that those that do not agree with him as traitors. They cite the murder of MP Jo Cox, her murderer gave his name in court as "death to traitors", as well as the fact that MPs, female MPs in particular are under considerable security risk.

Johnson replied to one of them "I have never heard so much humbug in my life" doubles down by explaining why he thinks it is a surrender bill and says that the best way to honour Jo Cox is by getting Brexit done.

That has to be the most disgusting display at the dispatch box I have ever seen from a PM possibly ever
