At the moment it might be the only medal we will come away with and a host of PB's.
The IAAF has pretty much shot itself in the foot with thinking by going to Doha they would get great atmosphere whereas in truth there is zero atmosphere and more likely zero interest, and I would say, it has to be one of the embarrassing things for a sports federation for it's major competition, God knows what the publicity was like in Doha but it seems the seats are taken up by team mates of competitors and team officials. This would have to go down as one of the worst World championships ever staged despite the great competition going on and certainly questions have to be asked. I can now only see 2022 as being a big embarrassment for FIFA.

I hope there are lessons from this for the IAAF in future

She has been higher than 4.80m though I'm sure she has been close to 5m before. I think come Tokyo, there is a big possibility she will probably have to clear as close to 5m as possible, not only to qualify BUT ALSO to even get an Olympic medal of some sort. That has to be her aim over the winter & competing indoors, to get over the 5m barrier.

It was predictable. The country has zero interest in and zero pedigree in sport. Some years ago the Qatari government set about a deliberate policy of making itself a mecca for world sport knowing that oil revenues wouldn't last forever - in much the same way as neighbouring Dubai has set itself up as a tourism hotspot. Hence the IAAF Diamond League meeting, the F1 grand prix, the FIFA world cup and most likely a host of others in sports I don't follow. All aided by mega bucks. I wouldn't be surprised if they bid for the Winter Olympics with the aid of artificial snow. It stinks.
Not to mention the horrendous climate and the appalling treatment of the poor guest workers who build the stadiums.

I'd be very surprised if they haven't made any profit from this tournament

I fear the backlash from this that 2021 may even be an even bigger disaster than Doha as it will be staged in Eugene, Oregon USA as there was lack of European bidding

I'm inclined to think he is, While the ICC is also working out how to harness he success of England's cricket World Cup win, the IAAF has failed to pick up on Usain Bolt's popularity in Athletics and maybe now, the IAAF needs to turn to Bolt himself for help.

I think to be perfectly honest, the Middle East is a part of the world where certain sports are still growing in popularity (Saudi Arabia is due to stage the rematch of Ruiz vs Joshua soon and the WWE have recently also staged matches in the Middle East), I think one of the main problems is staging huge events like the World championships has been the temperatures. I would not be surprised if there is a loss on the balance sheet after the event. I would now think the IAAf has to hold it's hands up and say 'we got it slightly wrong' The continent for me is a very difficult one to hold sporting events in sometimes, and I'm sure the political blockade of Qatar in the region probably hasn't helped very much.
The IAAF def does need to see how former athletes like Bolt can help with the sports' image in future, he is likeable, and has the sort of personality that would make him a huge ambassador which I feel the sprt needs very badly.
