River Walks
River lea
BBC 2019

The River Lea rises in the Chiltern hills in Bedordshire and flows south through East London into the Thames just south of that iconic example of transport infrastructure, the Canning Town flyover.

The presenter, Sean Fletcher, who apparently presented the ITV daytime game show "Rebound" (me neither), follows the last eight miles from Tottenham Hale looking at some of the natural and man-made sites of interest. Even though I used to live less than half a mile from Hackney Marshes I never ventured along any part of the Lea Valley so this was all pretty much new to me.

Sean visits the Walthamstow Wetlands which is a nature reserve described as the largest urban wetland in Europe and is an important site for breeding and migarating wetland birds.

Further south is the Abbey Road Pumping Station, a grade II* listed building known as "The Cathedral of sewage", which was built in the 1860s as part of the system to divert sewage away from central London. The original design features are still present in an interesting mix of architectural styles but it's a shame the eight beam engines have been removed as those beasts are awesome bits of kit when up and running.

PoliticKing with Larry King
His main guest, to discuss 50 years of Earth Day, was environmental activist (and actor) Ed Begley Jr. He built his house out of steel so it will last for centuries, and tries not to use planes at all.

My feet are killing me on Quest Red on Freeview.
So many guys post in this forum or in the chat about feet and although I go along with them I'm more interested in foot problems and surgery. There's been a few videos on youtube but now there's a whole TV show.
Last nights show was S1E1 and there were three patients: one who'd neglected them , a woman with six toes per foot and another with a growth on the sole.
BTW the female doctor is called Ebonie and she's very nice looking.
It's American of course because they don't have healthcare for all.

A decent repeat thanks to the snooker ending early.
Good Food have been repeating a few of their shows lately, and I made a point of rewatching this because I love it. A rare case of being encouraged to either visit the country to try the food, or to try the recipes at home.

Heather Dewar visits several spots familiar from other docs, linked by the "theme" of water, so the Falkirk Wheels, some hydroelectric plant & reservoir, a natural spring, and so on. She also did a watercolour which she felt wasn't good enough, but it was really.

Legends Live On - Pieter van den Hoogenband
Eurosport - 30m

A series which spends time in the company of distinguished Olympians looking back at their career with input from their family and sporting rivals. This is the first one I've seen and at half an hour it didn't outstay its welcome.

Dutchman van den Hoogenband won three Olympic golds in the 100 and 200 metres freestyle at Sydney and Athens, most famously in the 200 in Sydney in front of 17,000 Australians screaming "Thorpey Thorpey".

What was the secret of his success? No secret really just natural talent, a supportive family, a good young coach and a prodigious amount of training. He retired after the 2008 games and now works in the media and in business.

Amazingly PVH as he is known won eight World Championships silver medals and no golds, but he was the first swimmer to reach the final in the same event at four different Olympics.

The Alienist S1 Ep6. It's a very good show. It's dark, but worth watching, has a good cast too inc Daniel Brühl, Luke Evans & Dakota Fanning.

Quote:
The psychological thriller drama is set in 1896, when a series of gruesome murders of boy prostitutes has gripped New York City. Newly appointed police commissioner Teddy Roosevelt calls upon Dr. Laszlo Kreizler, a criminal psychologist and John Moore, a newspaper illustrator, to conduct the investigation in secret. Joining them in the probe is Sara Howard, the headstrong secretary to the police commissioner, as well as the Jewish twin brothers Marcus and Lucius Isaacson, both detective sergeants in the NYPD.

The team finds opposition within the NYPD, primarily from Captain Connor and the recently retired Chief Byrnes, both of whom are more committed to protecting the reputations of New York's high society than they are to finding the perpetrators of the crimes; as well as from the working poor and lower class citizens who distrust them for being outsiders.

Arena - Kusama - Infinity
A somewhat potty Japanese artist who went to the USA with her mad ideas, and when they got stolen by no-marks like Andy Warhol, she became suicidal. She returned to Japan, found a situation (living in a psychiatric hospital) that worked for her, and slowly found the acclaim and $$$$ that her work deserved.
