BBC4 showed Rock N Roll Island last week, a look back at the antics on Eel Pie Island in the late 50s and early 60s. They had Rod Stewart as well as many lesser lights.

Together TV showed Eels and Pies and Rock N Roll last night, only half an hour, but the same basic topic. The late inventor and resident Trevor Baylis cropped up on both shows Smile

I don't know when I mentioned the Heyday TV strand which repeated docs which had been on DVDs before, but I see they're now on YT as well, for people who watch such things. Here's Judas Priest, for one:

Others on Rush, Nirvana, UFO, etc. See for yourself if bothered Wink

The Wed one had Todd Rundgren and Paul Rodgers, but I don't think they're all necessarily that standard (see Sammy's YT channel for more details if you're interested). Also its on a boat not a road.
If you are watching R&RRT (and it's pretty good, and is sorta set on the road (he met Bret Michaels at his place the other week)), then the same channel at 7pm shows The Big Interview with Dan Rather, also Wed & Fri. Tonight he's talking to Lou & Mick from Foreigner. Check listings etc If the one from the other night with Annie Lennox is any guess, it's from 2014.

I'm also enjoying "MTV Unplugged at Home", a much shorter version of their usual, and often featuring people they wouldn't give a full show to in normal circumstances, eg Shaggy.

There was an excellent Arena prog the other night about Ike White, a soul singer who was discovered in prison, and got early release with help from Stevie Wonder, but then fell into obscurity. Rediscovered many years later, he starts relating his story, but then dies. His wife checks out his archive and starts to learn his true story, his other relationships and children. Sobering but surprising.

BBC2 have a new doc on the Boomtown Rats tonight, plugging their recent new album. Yes, 2020's year of the comebacks has even raised the Rats from the dead.

With Tom Jones turning 80 tomorrow, BBC4 did him the honours last night, with something new and a couple of repeats - the latter was a small compilation of stuff from him being on Later with Jools Holland, and they meant small - just material from the 98/99 Hootenanny.

Anyone who ever saw Rhys Thomas' series about rock legend Brian Pern may wish to know he's got a new prog tomorrow night on Spandau Ballet.

I didn't think it was as good as the Pern stuff. Partly because Gary Kemp really is unpleasant.

Though if Rhys does a follow-up on Tony Hadley called Truly Hadley Deeply, he might do better.

The Kings of Leon concert is repeated Friday at 11 for anyone reading this late (or who wants to watch it again, for all I know).
