RE: VAT on Digital Platforms
Not exactly VAT related, but it looks like Bella Thorne has made things a whole lot worse for Onlyfans creators Rolleyes

She was still charging less than Kerrie Lee was for the vid of her giving Chappers a gobble Big Grin

^ Yes some creators are blaming the actress' messing around (even if its to the tune of $2M) on the platform for the imposition of new restrictions on there.
OF say its not her alone that's the cause: https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-ar...s-backlash

EDIT TO ADD: Good commentary on the whole here... https://reprobatepress.com/2020/08/30/be...y-culture/

Babeshow n. - Live Adult Entertainment genre based around premium-rate phome sex chat lines. Scantily-clad female presenter induces callers and users to other inactive services from three-walled set in a TV studio. Largely softcore Tease format influenced by standards and strictures of free-to-air TV platform..

The assessment in this case turns out to be £11,238,478. OnlyFans have appealed the matter to the UK Tax Tribunal.

According to press reports this week, OnlyFans has now lost its appeal against the VAT assessment. They can easily afford the £11m though.

RE: VAT on Digital Platforms
Which means that somewhere along the lines they will likely hit creators and users with charges to make them pay the fine for them, rather than pay it themselves I'm willing to bet. I would not be surprised if we end up back with them pushing through their original idea that they tried to do a few years ago - of pushing off the babes/sex workers off OF and they in turn move onto other UK based similar sites, to avoid getting involved in international tax row or similar. I am wondering now if Bella Thorne now has finally been the straw thatr broke the camel's back.I would agreee she probably doesn't need OF to supplement her earnings but whether it makes OF probably now need to look at what creeators are earnings before approving them to join the platform is another matter.

would this victory make HM mlove on to chase Twitter and Facebook for smiliar actions? I can't recall if Twitter or Facebook have faced similar actions before.

They have already paid it anyway. They gave HMRC the sum demanded back in 2020.
